❔Did you know?❔

Ototoxicity refers to the toxic effects of certain substances, including some medications, on the structures of the inner ear or the auditory nerve, leading to hearing loss, balance issues, or both. These substances can cause damage to the delicate hair cells in the inner ear or interfere with the functioning of the auditory nerve, resulting in varying degrees of hearing loss and balance disturbances.

Taking proactive steps to monitor your hearing can help mitigate the effects of ototoxicity and preserve hearing and balance function.

Additionally, kidney disease can lead to imbalances in bodily fluids and electrolytes, impacting the delicate structures of the inner ear responsible for hearing. While the exact mechanisms linking kidney disease and hearing loss are still being researched, it's essential for individuals experiencing kidney disease to monitor their hearing health.
