Sometimes you have to be creative when using an assistive device. Practice even when you’re sure you can. Know that you can get out in case of an emergency. When feeling uncomfortable or unsafe, consult a physical and/or occupational therapist.

It’s warm out there but it doesn’t mean you can’t get something done inside! Challenge yourself and load up with a little resistance. Tackle “two birds with one stone” and integrate a little resistance training into your balance routine. Don’t wait and do what feels right!

Weighted vests might just provide the added benefit you’re looking for when walking or when performing simple tasks around the home. They can assist in burning a few extra calories while improving generalized strength in the legs and trunk.

Thanks to those who came out to the first ever Walk with a Doc event at The Pennsylvania Military Museum in Centre County, PA! We had a blast discussing exercise/activity in aging adults and plan to continue the discussion in two weeks on May 3rd, same place and time!
