🧠 Caregiver Tip: De-Escalating an Angry Client

As a caregiver, you may occasionally face clients who are upset or agitated. Here's how to respond calmly and professionally:

✅Stay Calm – Keep your voice steady, your tone respectful, and your body language non-threatening.

✅Listen Without Interrupting – Let them express their frustration. Sometimes they just need to feel heard.

✅Show Empathy – Use phrases like, “I understand this is upsetting,” to validate their feelings.

✅Keep Boundaries – Stay respectful but firm. If they become aggressive, prioritize safety and contact your supervisor immediately.

✅Redirect & Reassure – Gently shift focus to something positive or calming when appropriate.

✅Follow Up Afterward – Once the situation is calm, check in with the client (if appropriate) or report the incident. Reflecting on what happened helps prevent future issues and shows you care
