As I get deeper in the realm of birth services and infertility. The misinformation as well as the miseducation of terms used to debilitate our experience. Clients come to me and speak of geriatric pregnancy, which is outdated term.

Let's unpack the word geriatric [medical treatment of the elderly (geriatrics) starts from the age of 65 years old. > 65
In America this term is widely used as well as a few other terms to described if you are over 35 and trying to conceive. While they are definitely factors that can cause infertility such as menopause PCOS endometriosis none of those are a sentence merely a fragment. My goal is to reprogram the terms that are used when talking about fertility and birthing.

National Infertility Awareness Week from April 23-29, addressing the emotional and mental burden of people dealing with infertility is important. National Infertility Awareness Week is a seven-day long event to help spread awareness about the various aspects of infertility and help make the journey of people dealing with it a tad bit easier. 

Infertility does not mean that you cannot get pregnant. This is a common misconception associated with infertility in the mainstream notion. This is why when people get an infertility diagnosis, the first thought that comes to their mind is that they will never be able to have a child. However, this is far from the truth. National Infertility Awareness Week aims to eradicate such notions and help people get valid and proper information and the right support systems.

Infertility means you are having difficulties with getting pregnant. However, this does not mean that getting pregnant is impossible for you. Once you discover the issues causing these problems, you can find ways to address them.

It's not just something we say. It's not just something we write about.

It's something we need to think about, know, value and embrace.

It's what we believe in, unconditionally. Equity means creating an inclusive world.

We can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion.
