Move-in days like this never get old 💙

Judy arrived today to a thoughtfully prepared apartment created by her son and daughter-in-law, every detail filled with love. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

Welcome home, Judy. We’re so happy to have you at Charter.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Gary Riddle, formerly one half of the beloved duo The Nit Picker’s. While Darrell has retired, Gary has graciously continued sharing his talent with us, and we are so grateful that he has chosen to keep the music alive on his own.

Gary’s performances bring so much joy to our community — filling the room with smiles, laughter, and even a little dancing. His dedication and enthusiasm create moments our residents truly look forward to and deeply enjoy.

We would also like to thank all of our residents who came down to participate and make the afternoon such a wonderful success. Seeing everyone engaged, happy, and having a great time is what makes these moments so special.

A huge thank you to Lisa Phillipson from Southern Illinois Hospice for coming to our community and leading the powerful training “Through the Eyes of a Senior.”

During this experience, our team members wore noise-canceling headphones and special darkened glasses designed to simulate the effects of Alzheimer’s and aging, while being asked to complete everyday tasks such as folding clothes, writing family members’ names, and separating silverware. What may seem simple quickly became challenging, eye-opening, and deeply meaningful.

This incredible demonstration allowed our staff to truly see and feel what daily life can be like for seniors, building empathy, understanding, and compassion that will directly impact the care we provide.

Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your time, knowledge, and passion with us—and thank you to our amazing team members who participated with open hearts and minds. Experiences like this help us grow, learn, and better serve our residents every day.

Happy National Rubber Ducky Day! 🦆
Lots of dancing, laughter, and fun today! Thank you to Bryan Foggs for another fantastic afternoon of entertainment. We wrapped things up with rubber duck trivia—fun fact: ducks really do sleep with one eye open! 👀 What a great day!

We couldn’t leave out our fearless leader!
Of course, we had to turn our Executive Director into a cute cartoon too. Technology Day wouldn’t be complete without including the person who leads us with heart, dedication, and a great smile! 🤖🎨

📱✨ Technology Day Fun!
Today we explored the world of AI, and it was truly amazing! We talked about how technology works and even turned our residents’ photos into cartoons. Seeing the joy and surprise on their faces when they realized what technology can do was absolutely priceless. Moments like these remind us that learning never stops! 💙🤖

A little friendly competition goes a long way 🧠❤️ Board games help keep memories strong, minds active, and smiles big. Today our residents had a blast playing Blokus—a fun game that gets you thinking, planning, and laughing along the way. Proof that simple, old-fashioned fun is truly the best kind of fun

This January opens like a fresh canvas brushed with possibility as we welcome a new year filled with creativity, curiosity, and lighthearted joy.

Our theme, Playology: The Art of Fun, celebrates the truth that play is something we carry throughout life. It strengthens our minds, nurtures our spirits, and connects us in beautifully meaningful ways.

This month, we are embracing play in a whole new way by exploring it through the many National Fun Days woven throughout January. With a full calendar of themed celebrations and creative moments, residents will have countless opportunities to jump in, explore freely, and enjoy the simple delight of play.

Together, we step into the new year with a joyful mindset that invites exploration, connection, and creative expression. Here is to a January filled with wonder, connection, and the beautiful art of play.
