We need to heal at a cellular level. We need to hydrate at a cellular level. Everything comes down to our mitochondria in our cells and the energy they produce. But what does that mean? We will be covering how to read labels, tips to help you know if you are really picking out a good quality or getting fooled by a fancy label.

We will also give you information to help you decide how to prioritize what you take, what should be taken with what, and if when you take them matters.

This month our topic will be cholesterol. There is so much confusing information and how do you know who/what sources you are suppose to trust.
Are we just at the mercy of trusting doctors and scientists since we don’t have their training to know any better?

There are ways to sort through some of the confusion. Join us and learn a new way to listen to what the “experts” tell us so we can make more informed decisions about our health. We have to learn how to be our own best advocate, and take control of our own health.

Join Jennifer Walley Boyd and myself for this months diet and lifestyle workshop to learn more about the body and inflammation.

Inflammation is a natural process of the body. Its purpose it to be a first responder to sites where a function is disrupted. So, inflammation is not our enemy.

When body processes are disrupted in a way where we develop chronic systemic inflammation, that’s where disease can manifest.

While we may find inflammation at the start of all disease, it is NOT actually a “root cause” the body doesn’t just become chronically inflamed for no reason.

Jenn and I will dive into some of the root cause reasons the body may develop chronic inflammation in the first place and some solutions to start supporting the body so the body has the ability to “cool” down.

This workshop is good for ANYONE. Our modern living is conducive to chronically elevating inflammation in all of us.

Weight issues, chronic pains, especially in joints and lower back, blood sugar, heart conditions, fatigue, brain-fog, food cravings, addictions, mental-illnesses are just a few things on a very long list.

FREE NUTRITION AND LIFESTYLE WORKSHOP! This Sat July 20. 11am-12

Come see Jennifer Walley Boyd and me Stages Wellness Holistic Center

If we all know we should be eating healthier why don’t we? What causes us to sabotage ourselves every time we try? Food Additcion and disordered eating mindset can affect everyone. This is about learning how processed foods and current narrative about diets and weightloss are effecting all of us.

Of course it takes a certain amount of commitment to successfully make changes, but when we don’t understand what we are up against, we continually try to power our way through restrictive eating and doing “everything in moderation” then blame ourselves when we fail. Understand how processed foods are really effecting your brain and learn new strategies to eliminate these “foods” out of your life.

Perhaps we should add some more context here. Processed Food Addiction is what we are really talking about here.
IF someone is even in a place where they can accept that food can be addictive, what I typically hear is “Yeah, but with drugs and alcohol, you can remove the substance, I can’t remove food, I have to eat”. Of course! But you are not required to eat addictive foods. Someone with a drinking problem usually has to remove alcohol. They can still drink water, juice etc. Someone w a drug problem needs to remove the addictive drug, they don’t necessarily need to remove ibuprofen or and antibiotic etc.

We need to recognize processed foods for what they are and what they do to the body. They do not nourish the body. They are not food. They cause a response in the brain as drugs do. You can even expect to go through physical withdrawals symptoms while recovering and there is no dietary requirement for any of them!

Being told “all things in moderation” is one of the most damaging pieces of advice one can be given about diet. While I understand the sentiment, because breaking the habit of calling foods “bad” or trying to be too restrictive does create its own set of problems. But who tells a recovering crack or heroine addict that they just need to learn to consume in moderation? We need to stop classifying these products as food and lumping them into what we are trying to “moderate.”

Could battling your diet from this perspective be what sabotages your efforts to stick to your weight loss plans or regulate your blood sugar?

This can be a really tough one to distinguish. Especially compared to the symptoms of binge-eating disorder. Quite often they may over-lap and one could be dealing with both.
This is a very complex topic. But a short summary to help distinguish the difference would be understanding that eating disorders can be classified more as a mental disorder resulting from biological, environmental, emotional and psychological factors. Where food addiction can affect anyone. The body can become physiologically dependent on the chemical release given by certain foods, particularly those with hyper-palatability. There may be foods we “crave” or believe we just couldn’t live without, even though we know it doesn’t offer any or much nutritional value, or we know that if we start eating, we’re not stopping til our body rejects another bite or the food is gone.

Firstly, it’s important to note the difference between DISORDERED EATING and EATING DISORDERS. Eating disorders are specific clinical diagnosis that meet a particular criteria. Only qualified healthcare professionals can diagnose these.
Disordered eating can refer to any abnormal or unhealthy habits around eating food. Anyone can fall under “disordered eating” if they recognize their habits around food are disrupting their peace.

With food addiction and disordered eating, it may be beneficial to have the help of a qualified professional to recognize whether these may pertain to you. But, similar to one with a drug or alcohol problem, one can be told the problem and even forced into treatments but until the individual can self-diagnose these as their issues and own the problem, chances are it won’t get better because these things take different strategies than will-power, discipline and a good food plan.

We are not medical professionals so we will not be discussing diagnoses, treatments or cures. This is an opportunity to share personal experience and give you tips, information and resources to incorporate diet and lifestyle changes that anyone can use and do in conjunction w treatment and plans from your trusted medical professionals.

Why are minerals important to our health?
Minerals are essential to just about every phase of the life process.
Look at all the things we do to sustain life such as eat, sleep, breathe, move. All of those functions are sending signals throughout the body to support life.
Our food as well, once broken down and digested, is used to send signals throughout the body to do necessary functions.
We are electrical beings, our body uses electrical pathways to carry these messages and the minerals conduct the electricity.
While our body can manufacture many of the vitamins we need it cannot manufacture minerals.

What can cause mineral imbalances?
While in some few cases one can inherit a predisposition to certain imbalances, most of the time we’ll find the culprits to be:
Stress
Diet
Medication
Environmental Pollutants
And even taking incorrect nutritional supplements, or the incorrect amounts.

A Hair Tissue Analysis can be a better gauge as to your overall body chemistry since testing tissue will show what’s been stored over the last 90 days vs a blood test which is just a snapshot of what is in your blood at the time the test.
*Although blood tests do have their place.

The lab I use is one of only two in the U.S. that does not wash the hair sample first providing not only a more accurate test, but can also detect toxic heavy metals you may be storing.

Once the results are back, we can design a diet, supplement and life style regimen that can help bring your body back into balance to function optimally.

And, did you know there is actually a circumstance where showing elevated levels of toxic heavy metals is a good thing?
