Estrogen blocking medications, like Tamoxifen, initiate lymphatic swelling and reduce blood flow in women post breast cancer surgery.
Why? Because estrogen supports lymphatic flow and blood flow. When estrogen is blocked, lymphatics and blood flow significantly reduce allowing for tissue swelling and lymphedema in the arm on the side of surgery.
They often blame the swelling on the surgery but it is because most women after surgery are prescribed Tamoxifen which slows the lymphatics causing swelling for a lifetime.
There are other ways to support breast cancer to reduce the risks of lymphedema.
