Honoring my incredibly special girl, Mia, today on the 8th anniversary of her passing. 💜 She is my reason for becoming a veterinary social worker. 🙏 During her 12 years, she was a gentle yet fierce warrior. She loved her life to the fullest…boldly, bravely, beautifully, always embracing her uniqueness and blazing the trail for others. Including me. ♥️ And her nine furry siblings who would also all eventually face their passings. 🐾
For nearly 3 years she was a medical miracle, fighting and winning against lymphoma…until her body and spirit were ready to be set free. Together, she and I cherished the power of the human-animal bond through our profound connection, her constant lessons, and our longtime work together as a therapy animal team. She impacted many many people and animals in such life altering ways.
As a therapy dog, she worked with struggling teens in clinical and school based counseling, with individuals facing life-threatening illnesses at Bailey-Boushay House, and with children, adolescents and families navigating life-threatening medical conditions and severe mental health concerns at Seattle Childrens Hospital. Most poignantly, while she herself was a cancer warrior she visited with and comforted other (human) cancer warriors.
Mia, your beautiful spirit, lessons, and teachings continue to amaze me and live on. 💜💜
