With Mother’s Day approaching and National Nursing Home week with the theme being Moments in Bloom we as a department decided to bloom with flowers everywhere even with our Greenhouses.

It hasn’t been a full week yet since our residents started their greenhouse kits. The residents are happy with the progress, and within the weeks to come we are hoping they will be ready for us to plant in the courtyard in our flower boxes for National Nursing Home Week. Each month, there is a different Port of Call theme. This month, the theme is Lima, Peru.

Lima is a longstanding, historic city rich in culture and attractions for tourists to see. Founded on January 18, 1535 by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, Lima was given the nickname “The City of Kings” because the discovery date was close to the Epiphany, a popular Christian festival. Today, Lima is home to over 8 million people, and hosts a blend of cultural and architectural influences from the different civilizations over the years.

Each month, the participating affiliated communities will host the monthly Port of Call program. Port of Call is a Life Enrichment program designed to educate the residents with food, games, activities, and fun based on a different country or city.

In honor of National Art and Craft Day, residents chose to make butterfly sun catchers for their rooms. They turned out very nice and residents enjoyed the craft!

The residents were working in our greenhouses yesterday planting our flowers so that they grow. We planted several different flowers, and we will plant them in our flower beds in courtyard during National Nursing Home Week. The theme this year is “Moments in Bloom,” and what a way to to honor the theme by planting flowers and watch them bloom!

Today is National Purple Up Day! This day is dedicated to honor US military children for the sacrifices they make. Purple symbolizes the colors of each branch of the military mixed together!💜

Residents and staff enjoyed eating some Cherry Rope Twizzlers on National Licorice Day. Some of them separated them into small pieces and some just decided to eat them whole. Beulah said if you tear them up in small pieces they last longer and then she laughed!

The Activities department and residents made cinnamon rolls for cinnamon roll day, and we poured heavy whipping cream over them and baked them in the oven. After they came out of the oven they were topped off with creamy frosting, and the residents said that it was the best cinnamon rolls they have ever eaten. They really enjoyed them!
