Kindering

Kindering Kindering provides early support services to infants and children who have special needs and their families.

Kindering embraces children of diverse abilities and their families by providing the finest education and therapies to nurture hope, courage, and the skills to soar. Founded in 1962 by five young Eastside mothers of children with special needs, Kindering is the largest early support center in Washington State, one of the three largest centers in the nation, and notably the most comprehensive. Each year thousands of infants and children with special needs receive crucial therapies, special education, and other early support programming designed to give them the tools they need to reach developmental milestones. We also offer a full range of services to support the entire family, including parent education courses, specialized support groups for parents (Mothers Circle, Fathers Network) and siblings (Sibshops), specialized programming for foster parents, and a true sense of community for those facing the unexpected journey of raising a child with special needs. Specialties

Developmental assessments; physical, occupational, speech, nutrition/feeding, and mental health therapies; special education; parent and sibling support groups; parent education; family counseling; specialized support for children in foster care and their families; private therapy; and an inclusive toddler preschool. The Need Is Great

Kindering is now serving more children than ever before, and demand for our services is growing. Over the last five years, enrollment in our early support program has more than doubled. Infants cannot wait: research proves that birth to three years of age is a critical period for development. Early support can change a child's life, and you can help Kindering ensure that no child in need is ever turned away from receiving the support they need to develop to their fullest potential.

There were moving speeches, rousing cheers, and the occasional (perfectly age-appropriate) tantrum at “Have a Heart for Kids Day” at the State Capitol. 💜 Thank you to the parents, kids, board members, and staff who joined us for an epic advocacy day with Children's Alliance!

Today’s the day! After months of planning, “Have a Heart for Kids Day” at the State Capitol is finally here. We’re thrilled to be joining – and 200+ advocates! – for this wonderful day of legislative advocacy.
We’ll be advocating for the protection and preservation of critical services for kids, including Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT). These are the pediatric therapies that help young children with diverse needs gain life-changing and often life-saving skills, like how to safely swallow food, get around, and communicate.
Thank you to all our friends and allies who showed up in force for kids this year! 💜

The Arc of Washington States celebrates the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We are reminded of his unwavering call for unity, equality, and justice. As we reflect on his legacy, we recommit ourselves to building an inclusive community where every voice is heard, every person is valued, and every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Today, we honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and reflect on one of the many enduring gifts he gave this country: his words.
“It is not possible to be in favor of justice for some people and not be in favor of justice for all people.”
His words don’t just call us toward justice; they inspire the urgency that inequality demands.
This, and so much more wisdom, has been passed down from the Civil Rights Era to today -- where these statements ring just as true as they did decades ago.

As of December 31, 2025, the Sibling Support Project (SSP) has officially transitioned from Kindering to its new home with the Sibling Leadership Network (SLN).

For almost 20 years, the SSP was a cherished part of the Kindering community—growing into a global movement that supports siblings of people with disabilities through Sibshops, training, and meaningful connections. We are incredibly proud of the foundation built during the SSP’s time at Kindering and the countless families it has touched.

Now in 2026, we’re thrilled to see the SSP thriving under the stewardship of the Sibling Leadership Network, a longtime partner dedicated to elevating sibling voices and advancing equity. With SLN’s leadership, the SSP continues to grow, innovate, and make a profound impact on siblings and families worldwide.

We remain deeply grateful for the SSP’s legacy at Kindering and look forward to cheering on its continued success in this next chapter. 💙

Many thanks to the Rotary Club of Duvall for having us this morning! We were truly moved to hear from some of you who also have personal experiences with Kindering. Special thanks to Jonathan Burks, one of our board members, who shared his family's powerful "Kindering story."

On January 5, 2026, the Acting Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention signed a decision memorandum to revise the Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule and significantly reduce the number of vaccinations routinely recommended for all U.S. children. This decision did not follow established procedure for vaccine policy recommendations and threatens an increase in vaccine-preventable diseases in children nationwide. Children getting sick from the diseases prevented by recommended immunizations leads to missed school for children, missed work for parents, and even hospitalization and death in some children.
