Meet Rachel!

Rachel is our Senior Dietary Manager here at THIRA and oversees our Nutrition Division, which includes our eating disorder programming and our Registered Dietitians. She has been a dietitian for over 10 years and is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. Rachel uses a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach to nutrition care, and works hard to understand and dismantle the systems of oppression that interfere with healing. She is passionate about health equity and making care accessible.

Rachel feels honored to be able to walk alongside clients as they heal their relationship with food, and strives to make THIRA a place where folks feel empowered in their journey through eating disorder recovery. When she's not at THIRA, Rachel teaches an introductory nutrition course at Seattle Central College, and also loves to explore the PNW.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose work reminds us that dignity, equity, and compassion are essential to a healthy society. At THIRA Health, we recognize that mental health care is deeply connected to justice, access, and respect for every individual.

As we reflect on Dr. King’s vision, we reaffirm our commitment to creating inclusive, affirming spaces where people of all backgrounds and identities can feel safe, supported, and empowered to heal.

As we step into a new year, Wise Mind can help us set intentions that are both hopeful and realistic. By slowing down, breathing deeply, and balancing how we feel with what we know, we can choose goals that honor our emotions and our capacity. Wise Mind reminds us that meaningful change doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be sustainable.

WiseMind is where emotion and logic come together to guide thoughtful, balanced choices. When you pause, breathe, and listen inward, Wise Mind helps you respond with clarity rather than react from intensity or pressure. It honors how you feel and what you know, supporting decisions that align with your values.

Winter is the perfect time to slow down and reconnect with the present moment. Here are four simple ways to practice mindfulness this season:

1. Take a mindful winter walk and notice the sounds, textures, and temperatures around you
2. Sip a warm drink slowly and focus on its aroma and taste
3. Spend a few minutes watching snowfall or rain and let your mind settle into the rhythm of the weather
4. Wrap up in a cozy blanket and practice slow, intentional breathing

Small moments of mindfulness can bring warmth and calm to even the coldest days.

The Story of THIRA

In 1991, Dr. Moore founded The Moore Center (now Eating Recovery Center of Washington), the longest-established treatment center specializing in eating disorder treatment in the Pacific Northwest. In her many years of clinical experience she has worked with patients dealing with a wide variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, among others. These accomplishments are what has lead her to open THIRA Health. THIRA Health’s mission is to help adolescents and women work through traumatic life experiences and learn new coping skills. Soon after opening our doors Dr. Moore brought on Dr. Kathryn Korslund, as our Clinical Director. Having worked under Dr. Marsha Linehan during the development of DBT, Dr. Korslund has brought that expertise to THIRA, and has been a vital force in tailoring THIRA’s IOP and PHP programs following Dr. Linehan’s DBT guidelines. DBT has been proven to be an effective treatment for a wide variety of mental illnesses including but not limited to borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.
