Saying goodbye to Kayley Hillhouse

When I left academic medicine 11 years ago, I wondered if I would miss mentoring the residents and fellows I had the privilege of training

Fortunately, one of the great joys of what my partner Garrett Hyman and I have built at Lake Washington Sports & Spine is the opportunity to mentor future doctors, nurses, physical therapists, dentists, dieticians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

I had the pleasure of talking to Kayley Hillhouse, medical assistant extraordinaire, in her last official act working for us. Kayley will be starting medical school in Texas this fall, and I can't wait to see what great things she accomplishes in the future.

Please enjoy our final official conversation with Kayley

Dr. Ooze Remover

Shoulder fluid from a rotator cuff tear, Lipogems for shoulder and hip pain

Gary Chimes, MD PhD from Lake Washington Sports & Spine demonstrates how we treat patients

The first set of ooze is from a rotator cuff tear- fluid has leaked out of the patient’s joint underneath the coraco-acromial ligament and created a large cyst. Removing all that fluid has given him remarkable improvement in his range of motion

The second set of ooze is micronized fat from the Lipogems procedure. We have some left over after treating this highly active man’s hips and shoulder

Our Story

Dr. Garrett Hyman founded Lake Washington Sports and Spine (LWSS) in January of 2012. His vision was to create a sports medicine clinic that provided the Seattle area with an alternative to large, impersonal medical systems: a happiness-based medical clinic with a culture built on a foundation of respect, honesty, comradery, gratitude, and mutual accountability. Oh yeah, and an office that allowed dogs, sports, laughter, and FUN.

In 2013, Dr. Chimes joined LWSS and the dynamic GMEN duo was formed.

For (physically) active people, a life absent injury isn’t probable! LWSS is committed to helping our patients overcome the musculoskelatal injuries that prevent them from living their best lives. We believe in facilitating sustainable change that leads to positive outcomes.
