Are you living with moderate to severe asthma?

Researchers are inviting adults aged 18 to 75 to take part in a clinical study exploring a potential new treatment option for asthma.

Asthma is a long-term condition that can cause wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and coughing. Even with regular use of inhalers and medications, many people continue to experience flare-ups and persistent symptoms.

If this sounds familiar, you may be able to participate. To qualify, must be between 19-75 years old, have an asthma diagnosis for at least 12 months and currently using inhaled corticosteroids and at least one other asthma controller medication.

“Just because you have asthma doesn’t mean you can’t ski, snowboard or play sports. Asthma should not hold you back from what you love doing.” - Jake Cohn, professional free-style skier.

Jake is correct! People with asthma should not fear skiing or other winter related activities if their asthma is well-controlled.

Dr. William Silvers, MD, advises skiers with asthma to:
• Use a bronchodilator albuterol inhaler 15 minutes before skiing
• Warm up for 15-20 minutes before skiing
• Pace yourself on the slopes
• Wear a mask or scarf over their mouth and nose to help warm and moisten the dry air
• Monitor symptoms during skiing

It is important to remember these tips for the next time you want to hit the slopes! To read more about skiing with asthma, visit: https://allergyasthmanetwork.org/news/skiing-believing-managing-asthma-the-slopes/
