🌿 Does mom guilt sound familiar? 💭

Motherhood is full of emotions including feeling “not good enough” or that you “don’t deserve” to take a break. Sometimes that guilt may show up for different reasons including taking time for yourself or losing your cool.

Remember that just because you “feel” guilty it doesn’t mean you have to let it define you. Some mom guilt is common, valid and to some extent normal.

👇🏽 What helps?

• Adjust your expectations.
• Offer yourself some compassion instead of criticism.
• Do one thing you enjoy despite the guilt.
• Give yourself grace on the rough days.
• Name one thing you’re proud of yourself for.
• Find a healthy outlet to express yourself & decompress (music, journaling, therapy, support group, body movement).

🌿 Trying to keep the peace can lead to moments or patterns of people pleasing that bring anxiety and self-doubt. There’s nothing you can do to make everyone happy and there will always be someone who has something negative to say.

Pause and notice. If someone is invalidating your needs and feelings, it’s time to reflect about what adjustments need to be made to protect your mental health.

Give yourself permission to evolve, heal and grow into a healthier version of yourself without guilt 🫶🏽

It takes time, it takes practice, and it takes someone as strong as you to make it happen. If others don’t support your wellness, LET THEM be upset. You still deserve to protect your peace ✌🏽

🌿 Moms hear so much about “the village” but it isn’t as easy to find it. All moms deserve to feel supported, not just the first few days after giving birth, but in all different seasons.

Mama, it’s okay if you feel the village needs to be adjusted to meet your needs best.

Feeling supported and finding a reliable village improves moms’ mental health and overall wellbeing.

It’s easy to say “let me know if you need anything.” However, naming specifically what you need as a mom isn’t always easy in the midst of the overwhelm. Just show up in practical ways: a listening ear, meal prep, babysit/childcare, cook a meal, provide resources, a hug, a good laugh together, an encouraging word.
