Passing along this info from Whatcom Taking Action for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs
Summer is just around the corner, and I don’t know about you, but I’m thrilled for sunshine, longer days, and more time outdoors. That said, we also know that summer can bring unique challenges—especially when it comes to finding consistent support, enrichment, and connection for kids with disabilities.
For families raising children with disabilities, inclusive and supportive summer programs can be game-changers—offering not just care, but spaces where skills, confidence, and friendships can truly flourish.
Why extracurriculars matter
Whether it’s riding an adaptive bike, making music, performing on stage, or giggling through a nature walk—having something that lights you up outside of school can be life-changing. Every child deserves to feel that spark—and summer’s the perfect time to find it.
That’s why we’ve gathered an incredible list of local summer camps and recreation programs in Whatcom County and beyond that are welcoming, adaptive, and often contracted with DDA. We’ve also highlighted programs that are free or accept Apple Health/Medicaid or DCYF childcare assistance. See link below.
