Many parents are surprised to learn how much the birth process can impact their baby’s feeding journey.

From the way cranial bones shift during delivery, to how sucking helps them realign—feeding is both functional and therapeutic for a newborn.

But when birth is tough, feeding might be too. That’s where gentle chiropractic care can make a big difference. By supporting proper alignment of the cranial bones and releasing tension, we can help babies feed more comfortably and thrive.

Have you noticed feeding challenges with your little one? Let’s chat—I’m here to help.

🤰P***c Symphysis Dysfunction (PSD) – What It Is & How to Find Relief!

If you’re pregnant and experiencing sharp, shooting, or aching pain in your pelvis—especially when walking, standing on one leg, or rolling over in bed—you may be dealing with P***c Symphysis Dysfunction (PSD).

The p***c symphysis is the joint where the left and right pelvic bones meet at the front of your body. During pregnancy, hormonal changes (hello, relaxin!) cause the ligaments supporting this joint to loosen, sometimes leading to misalignment, instability, and pain.

✨ Tips to Help & Prevent PSD:
✔ Keep your legs together when getting out of bed or the car (think “mermaid movements”).
✔ Engage your core & pelvic floor before movements like standing up.
✔ Use a support belt to stabilize the pelvis.
✔ Avoid single-leg movements like lunges or stairs if they aggravate pain.
✔ Ice & gentle stretching to reduce inflammation and tension.

💆‍♀️ How Chiropractic Helps:
As a prenatal chiropractor, I am trained to work specifically with a pregnant pelvis allowing me to gently adjust, restore balance and relieve pressure on the p***c symphysis. The Webster Technique is what allows me to help optimize pelvic alignment, making movement (and birth!) more comfortable.

You don’t have to suffer through pregnancy pain—chiropractic care can help! Have you experienced PSD before? Let’s chat in the comments! ⬇️💬

Pregnancy & Heartburn: A Natural Solution!

Heartburn and indigestion are incredibly common during pregnancy, but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer through them. As your baby grows, increased intra-abdominal pressure and postural changes can push the stomach upward, irritating the diaphragm and esophagus—hello, acid reflux!

Chiropractic care can help by addressing spinal and rib cage alignment and releasing tension in the diaphragm. A diaphragm release helps restore normal movement of this crucial muscle, allowing your stomach to sit in a more natural position and reducing reflux symptoms.

Many pregnant mamas notice immediate relief after gentle adjustments and soft tissue work focused on the diaphragm, ribcage, and mid-back. If you’re experiencing heartburn or indigestion, let’s help your body move and function optimally so you can enjoy pregnancy with more ease!

the Webster technique is designed for analyzing and adjusting a pregnant pelvis with the goal of restoring proper alignment, which will take tension off the uterosacral ligaments allowing baby to move around more easily. This helps not only make mama more comfortable throughout her pregnancy, but can also help set her up for a more smooth and straight forward birth by allowing baby to get into the proper position for birth.

My whole goal in the office is to create luxury pelvises for babies to grown and develop in and also help with those common (but NOT normal) aches and pains during pregnancy.

Pregnancy related postural changes can have a huge impact on how we’re feeling.

Those common aches and pains associated with pregnancy are often due to the shifts in posture and strain on different ligaments and muscles as well as the shifts in the pelvic bones themselves.

Regular chiropractic care throughout pregnancy can help to decrease those common pregnancy related symptoms to help create a more comfortable pregnancy and more easy and straightforward labor and delivery.

As you can see here, just after one adjustment there is a huge shift in this woman’s posture which is going to help with the low back pain that is extremely common with pregnancy.

A review by a momma under care with Webster Technique:

“I began seeing Dr. JoAnne at 36 weeks pregnant with baby #2. I had always been averse to seeing a chiropractor because I dreaded the stereotypical joint-popping experience. How wrong I was! Dr. JoAnne makes a great case for the role of chiropractic care in the labor-prep process (and no joint popping necessary!).

The quality of care is fantastic — Dr. JoAnne is so professional and skilled at what she does, great at putting you at ease, and very communicative about her process. The space is beautifully designed, with many thoughtful and intentional touches (e.g. a play area of little ones, a nursing space, ect.). I continued to see Dr. JoAnne all the way up to my due date. Very glad I did. Highly recommended!”

The short answer is no, I am not in-network with any insurance providers. There are many reasons for this:

1. I do not want insurance companies dictating your care - often insurance companies allow a certain amount of visits per year and that number is often quite low. It would be like saying you’re only allowed to go to the gym once a month and are expected to stay strong and healthy. It doesn’t work that way.

At the end of the day, insurance companies are designed for quick, symptom relief and not long term wellness. As your chiropractor, I AM invested in your long term wellness. Not only do I want you to be pain free, but I also want you functioning at your highest capacity for as long as possible.

2. I cannot provide personalized quality care - in order for me to keep my doors open and also take insurance I have to see 10x the amount of patients. With this model, appointment times would have to be cut to 2-3 minutes per patient and I wouldn’t be able to provide you the quality, personalized care you deserve.

3. I can provide more affordable care by not being an in-network provider. It sounds counterintuitive, but hear me out. By taking insurance my prices would have to be a lot higher than they are because there would be a significant increase in my overhead costs by hiring and paying for a biller. Often times providers will use up all your benefits at that higher rate and then charge you out of pocket for the remainder of your care plan.
By not taking insurance I can keep my office costs lower and therefore save you money on your care plan.

4. I accept HSA and FSA and I can also provide you the appropriate documentation to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement if you have out of network coverage.

Did you know….

That in your kiddos first year of life, their nervous system is developing so incredibly fast that it reaches about 65% of its capacity by their first birthday.

Taking care of our nervous system from a young age is so important. I often see babies as young as a few days old so their nervous systems can grow and develop without any interference. Because healthy kiddos grow into healthy adults!

This weekend I was down in Seattle retaking the Webster technique seminar through the . For those that don’t know, Webster is a specific analysis and adjustment protocol for pregnancy to help reduce neuromuscular tension on the system and to help create a “luxury pelvis” (as would say) for baby to grow and develop in. This also helps to reduce the common aches and pains associated with pregnancy.

It had been about 6 years since taking the course and I’ve been seeing pregnant mammas for about 4 years, but it’s always nice to get a refresh and learn from a different instructor.

I’m so grateful to have attended this seminar as it reinforced that I’m in the right place. I absolutely love serving people throughout their pregnancy. Helping ease the discomforts as well as setting them up for a smooth, straightforward birth.

If you have any questions about how chiropractic care can help you throughout your pregnancy, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I personally respond to all messages and would be happy to assist in any way I can!

There’s been a lot of villainizing of the sympathetic nervous system lately and I want to clear the air:

Our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response) is crucial for our survival and overall well-being. We need to have the capacity to move into a sympathetic state when our environment requires it. The issue becomes when our nervous system gets STUCK in the sympathetic state and we become sympathetic dominant.

Sympathetic dominance occurs when our nervous system becomes overwhelmed with stress and it starts to perceive every situation as stressful and we lose that balance with our parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system. This intricate balance between the parasympathetic and sympathetic system ensures our bodies adapt to the demands of our environment, playing a role in maintaining physiological harmony and resilience.

So, our sympathetic nervous system is not inherently bad, it’s when we get stuck there that it becomes a problem.

If you have no idea what is going on with your nervous system, let’s get you scheduled and we can use some objective tools to get a better picture of where your nervous system is at!

I get a lot of questions and uncertainty about chiropractic care for babies and I want to help ease a little bit of that if I can.

More often than not babies will have some level of spinal misalignment after birth. I mean, if you think about it, they’ve been growing and developing in a very tight space for 9 months and are then required to pass through an even tighter canal to enter the world. And if everything goes according to plan, there can still be some level of spinal misalignment that can create nervous system dysregulation.

Nervous system dysregulation can present a variety of different ways in babies. Mostly commonly, I see babies that are having difficulty latching and that can make them very fussy. Babies can also have a difficult time p**ping, lots of tension in their systems, a preference for turning their head one direction, a difficult time sleeping, lots of gas, and many other symptoms. These are all a signs that their nervous system is having a hard time regulating.

Now babies are not just tiny adults, so we care for their nervous systems vastly different than we would care for an adult’s. While adjusting a baby I’m never going to use any more force than I would to check the ripeness of an avocado. It’s incredibly gentle and many babies sleep through their adjustments. And the beauty of babies is that because they are so new and haven’t had decades of forming patterns in their systems, they often respond fairly quickly to care. My primary goal with working with babies is to help ease the tension in their systems so that they can better adapt to the world around them.

If you have any questions or concerns I didn’t answer, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
