Whether it’s a slow walk around the block, a few steps into your backyard, or a loop through a local trail, the act of walking—and of inviting a trusted ally—is a gentle way to meet two essential needs - movement and meaningful support.
Start simply. Consider when in your day you might be able to step outside, even just for a few minutes.
Then ask yourself: Who in your support circle—your “solar system”—might be available to join you? A partner, a friend, a neighbor, someone from your peer group?
Plan a short outing—10 to 15 minutes is more than enough. Bring your baby in a stroller or wrap, or take a few moments to walk alone while a caregiver stays with the baby.
Remember: the goal isn’t distance or speed. It’s about connection—body, breath, and relationship. This practice can become a lifeline: a way to soften the edges of isolation and let in just a little more light.
So as August stretches before us, here’s a gentle invitation to consider:
🕰️When might you find a window in your day for a short stroll?
💕Who might you invite to join you?
🫶What would it feel like to take one small step toward connection?
🫂Try one walk-and-talk this week. Encourage yourself to reach out even if it feels a little hard.
🙌Then, put on your shoes, give yourself permission, and take that step.
After your walk, notice:
❓How do you feel—in your body, in your spirit?
❓What did it take to follow through?
❓Would you like to walk with this person again?
Then, maybe plan another. Let it be easy. Let the rhythm of your footsteps, the gentle movement, and the quiet companionship carry you through this season.
And as always, we’re here if you need more support.
