This week, we reached one year since opening The Way Station: Health & Hygiene Center. Our dedicated team has served more than 1,300 clients and provided access to thousands of showers, clean clothes, and walk-in medical and mental health services.

Thanks to countless hours from staff, donations from generous individuals and organizations, and so many nonprofit partners — The Way Station is meeting an incredible need in our community. We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this first year a success!

Unity Care NW is proud to share that our Chief Strategy Officer, Chris Kobdish, recently accepted the Collaboration Award at the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center’s 22nd Annual Peace Builder Awards on behalf of The Way Station.

This award recognizes the collective efforts of many partners who spent more than seven years working to bring The Way Station from idea to reality. Together, Unity Care NW, Opportunity Council, PeaceHealth St. Joseph , and countless community supporters persevered through challenges, secured funding, and found solutions to complex hurdles — all with a shared goal: to create a safe, welcoming place for people experiencing homelessness to access basic needs and supportive services.

Watch Chris speak about the center and its' history at the link below.

We were honored to welcome Senate Majority Leader Jamie Pedersen and Senator Sharon Shewmake for a tour of The Way Station.

Thanks to Senator Shewmake’s support in securing and $4 million in state funding, this project is now helping people meet basic needs, heal, and find stability.

The Way Station is the first facility in the country to bring respite beds, hygiene services, and walk-in health care together under one roof.

We’re proud to be part of a growing movement that shows what’s possible when social services, local government, and health care work together.
