When more children are vaccinated, we can better protect not just our kids, but our entire community. That’s why it’s so important to keep vaccines up to date. With vaccination rates for kindergartners in Whatcom and Skagit counties down, schools are now more vulnerable to outbreaks of preventable diseases like measles and whooping cough.

Parents: Vaccinations are part of your child’s regular well-child visits. Talk to your provider about making sure they’re current on all required immunizations and schedule a well-child visit.

Together, we can help keep classrooms healthy and open.

Where you live should never determine the quality of care you receive. Rural communities face some of the greatest barriers to health care with too few providers, long travel times, and limited local services.

Community health centers help bridge that gap. At Unity Care NW, we believe health care is a human right. 47% of our patients come from rural areas, and we serve as a vital source of affordable, high-quality care to patients from every corner of Whatcom County.

Happy Community Health Center (CHC) week!

Join us in celebrating and recognizing the vital work of health centers across the nation. The first CHCs opened in 1965 by pioneering doctors and concerned citizens who recognized the critical need for affordable primary care in underserved communities. Six decades later, CHCs are known for being resilient, innovative, and the largest healthcare system in the United States.

Unity Care NW is proud to be part of this legacy. We have served Whatcom County for 43 years, and have continued to expand services to meet the needs of our growing community - it is our honor to do so.

We want to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to increasing the years of healthy life in the people and communies we serve. Past, present & future - Unity Care NW's priority is always to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to everyone regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership - and thank you to our fellow CHCs for helping us keep this movement alive and well.

As the nation marks the 60th anniversary of the community health center movement during this year’s National Community Health Center Week (August 3–9), Unity Care NW is honoring one of its own: Muriel Handschy, a longtime provider and leader whose three-decade career helped shape the organization into the vital community resource it is today.

“I loved it from the very beginning,” Muriel said. “Every patient is treated with the maximum amount of respect.”
