The YOGA Workshop is available to everyone for the purpose of taking care of your health by improving physical and mental well-being and reducing stress to promote healing. The YOGA Workshop conducts classes using yoga in a progressive but gentle and easy to do format. Classes are offered in six-week sessions. New students to The YOGA Workshop usually enroll in Level 1A, which is designed for the beginner. No new students are permitted to enroll after the second week of each session; enrollment is limited. Both hatha and raja yoga will be taught in each class. The hatha yoga includes instruction in asanas (postures) along with pranayama (breathing) and relaxation techniques. The raja yoga consists of instruction in a wide variety of traditional techniques of meditation, concentration and relaxation. Written lessons are distributed each week. Easy Meditation Techniques

Welcome to a free upcoming podcast on meditation techniques offered by Holley Bennett, ERYT-500 from The YOGA Workshop here in Bellingham, WA

Some reasons that I have incorporated meditation into my daily life are:
• It provides a sense of well-being.
• promotes restful sleep
• decreases anxiety
• Lowers stress levels
• Improves my immune system
• And gives me a time-out from the daily stress

Some suggestions for your meditation practice are the following:

1. Practice once or twice a day at the same time.
2. Start with short sessions from 5-10 minutes then increasing with five-minute increments each week until you reach 20-30 minutes.
3. Use the restroom before starting.
4. Silence your cell phone and all devices.
5. Find a comfortable place to sit that is free from interruptions.
6. And most importantly, have no expectations, just experience the meditation each day as it is~

Daily Spinal Movements....

We exercise (run, bike, swim, climb, lift weights, etc.) to be strong and healthy, but do you intentionally move your spine to encourage mobility for a healthy spine??

Spinal flexibility is important for daily function. Here are six types of movements to promote movement of the spine:

1. Flexion: forward bends
2. Extension: back bends
3. Lateral flexion: side bends
4. Twists: torso turns around vertical axis
5. Elongation: the feeling of lengthening the spine
6. Inversion: upside down
