In 2002 we launched The Black Drop Coffeehouse in downtown Bellingham with little more than a few nickels rubbed together and a whole lot of elbow grease. Over the years, we've learned how much we didn’t know – we became obsessed with community, relationships, coffee, quality, and freshness. We learned how to develop a café culture, hiring staff that we treated like family, and explored the most e

xacting standards of drink preparation – those embraced by the Specialty Coffee Association of America and the United States Barista Championship. We imbued our staff with these standards and focused on drink-making quality. Soon thereafter it became clear that the ultimate way to control coffee quality and freshness was to purchase and roast all our own beans. In 2006, we launched Maniac Roasting as way to complement the Black Drop’s vision and enhance our commitment to quality. The Black Drop Coffeehouse has since been passed on to the capable hands of a long-time employee, but the importance of relationships continues to influence the vision of Maniac Roasting, which remains with the original ownership. We prefer to grow relationships organically – we don't just wholesale our coffees, we can also provide the same exact training as we held ourselves to while operating The Black Drop.

When we bought an espresso machine, we were on the hunt for the best local coffee. Bellingham has plenty of options that we tried, but Maniac Roasting was the clear winner for us.

We've been buying the Espresso Alectrona for the last year or two, bonus that they deliver it, and I haven't tried anything else that holds a candle to it. It's rich, buttery smooth, not fruity, it's everything I want in an espresso. One of these days I'll get around to expanding my palate and try their other roasts, but if you're looking for an excellent espresso, look no further.

Maniac produces right here in Bellingham, and they deliver to your front door! For those east of Bellingham, you can also pick it up at the Rome store on Mount Baker Highway.

Hello friends! Long time no see. I'm quite terrible at Maniac's social media 'cause I know I don't like my feed cluttered with tons of ads.

This isn't an ad!

I wanted to be forthright and let you fine folks know that our prices and sizes have changed. The coffee C Market has skyrocketed this past year and now with minimum and possibly heavier tariffs we just couldn't hold off. I was hoping to hold off the storm, but we simply weren't charging enough to keep going. I've increased our prices for the first time in a few years and to keep the sticker shock minimal, also have reduced the standard bag from one pound to 12oz. I'm a bad capitalist so please believe me when I say making these changes made me feel terrible, but I also know our doors need to stay open.
Thanks for your ongoing support of us and I hope to be able to roast up some awesome coffee for you for a long time!

Holy baloney! We certainly felt like the underdog in the Cascadia Daily News' Best of Bellingham coffee category! We were up against big name roasters and roasters who have coffee houses attached. As a small roaster who really focuses on local we are so thankful for all of your votes and confidence in our product.
