On my to do list: get my Doppler out of storage. I was unprepared for the rush of emotion and memory I experienced when I held it in my hand again. Long late nights tucked in someone’s bedroom or surrounded by the familiar walls of the birth center. Reassurance, a steady reminder of what all of this is for - safely welcoming the newest member of a family, of our community. Sometimes I’m listening for the countless time in a long slow journey, others, just trying to check once before a rapid arrival. Sometimes I’m in the office, holding the same tool that just guided us through a long triumphant birth, but this time placing it upon a belly that shows no signs of expansion so early in a pregnancy. Searching for the glorious first listen to a tiny one’s heartbeat. . . and when it comes through the speaker, seeing tears well into the eyes of parents so full of love for their baby, their future. Worries temporarily melting into a moment of pure awe. Midwifery is sacred, privileged work that I could never explain in words, though I occasionally try. My Doppler just took me on a journey through years of deeply accompanying people through some of life’s most transformative moments, and I am utterly moved and grateful beyond anything I could have had the capacity to predict. Welcome back to my side, old friend. We have so many more memories to make together ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

If you are contemplating a pregnancy in 2023 and are uninsured, please consider enrolling online. Income based pricing for premiums. You can enter your family’s information and then decide if it is right for you. ❄️

The kids are back, so the toys are back! Feeling sentimental seeing these reminders of my earlier parenting years AND the many hours of entertainment they’ve offered Salish Sea kids for the past decade. Books, firefighters, animals, trucks, dolls, stethoscope. . . Bring your imaginations little ones!

Behind the scenes! I keep your chart up to date, read lab and ultrasound reports - and call you with results, communicate with insurance companies and healthcare providers, complete FMLA paperwork, request, read and send medical records, answer client questions, schedule, consult, file birth certificates, research, do continuing education and keep my license and certifications up to date, among many other important tasks. The best part is my time with you, but all of it is necessary to support your care. 💞
