We've been getting A LOT of questions and concerns about whether or not our teabags are made of plastic so here's a little information about our special silken teabags.

Our teabags are made of a plant derivative known as PLA or poly lactic acid. Through the process of breaking down plant starches PLA becomes a DNA free material, meaning it is hypoallergenic and free of allergens. PLA is NOT a product of petroleum and is best composted in a commercial composting system but will also biodegrade, though is takes many years.

Our teabags are heat sealed unlike many teabags, including paper, which use plastics or glues to seal them.

We find this to be the best, safest available option which is why we choose it for our teabags!

If you are still concerned about the safety of our teabags, we offer all our delicious teas loose leaf and carry a wide selection of great tea baskets to brew up loose leaf on our website.

We do all in our power to be as environmentally conscious as possible both in our finished products and workplace practices.

We are blessed to be guests of this wonderful world and strive to do our part to take care of it for generations to follow.

Happy belated solstice! Summer is upon us and we just love a refreshing glass of iced tea. All our teas make great iced tea but a few really make a tasty glass. We especially love Old Town Berry, Ancient Sunrise, Lavender Orange Red, Farm and Forest and Lemon Mint Mate! Oh, and did you know matcha makes great iced tea?? Our Citrus Mint Hibiscus is divine!

What do you do?

I am the owner of Flying Bird Botanicals, an organic tea and drinking chocolate company that also makes delicious herbal body care on the side :) My role is mostly working with farmers here in the USA- including right here in Whatcom county- to source the most amazingly delicious organic herbs to make our herbal tea blends. Together with a team of amazing women and the support of my family we do our best to get our teas into as many hands as possible offering beauty and wellness to the world. We are proud to be growing our business while supporting small organic family farms and always putting community and planet above profit- it can be done :)!

What do you love about this area?

I love the incredible abundance we live in! We have amazing locally grown food and herbs, an incredibly creative community and an absolutely beautiful and amazing natural playground! Snowboarding, skiing, hiking, biking, swimming- you can do them all here. We even have an incredible youth and adult soccer league which I love too.
