Have you found yourself following health, wellness or fitness pages to improve your health behaviours, only to find that they actually make you feel guilty, self-critical, anxious or obsessive?
How can we use social media in a positive, balanced way when it comes to our own health?
My one main tip... Follow pages/profiles that boost your self-compassion.
The kind of pages that:
- Encourage you to listen to your own needs
- Recognise that there is not one path to health
- Refrain from dividing foods into ‘good’ vs ‘bad’
- Understand that there are MANY contributors to health and eating/exercise is only a small part of it
- Tell you that you cannot see health (a six pack is not a measure of health and fitness!)
- Share and celebrate a diverse range of bodies
- Recognise a wide range of ways to move our bodies
- Support you in taking time off exercise when you’re fatigued, ill or injured
- Know that your worth has nothing to do with your eating habits, exercise regime or your appearance
- Make you feel good after reading their posts
We get people asking all the time where they can go to find more of the kind of messages that we share. Here are just some of the pages we follow and love (in no particular order). They will help to make your social media feed a heart-warming and encouraging place to be…
