This is such an important conversation. Healthy bodies do not come in any particular size, shape, clothing size, or BMI category.

About a year ago, I went into outpatient treatment for an eating disorder. I had been trapped in the cycle of restricting, bingeing, and compulsively exercising for years, and I wanted so badly to break out of the cycle, but I was terrified of gaining weight. At the time, I had no idea how much ...

A war on one type of body, is a war on all bodies. It fosters fear either way: fear because are fat, or we feel fat, or fear of becoming fat. No body wins.

"Fatphobia demands that getting thin is our sole focus; that our bodies will never be small enough; that we sacrifice everything at the altar of weight loss. If you are thin, this is disordered thinking. If you are fat, this is demanded of you."

I’ve been asking you to be more considerate of what you do & don’t say to me. But this conversation doesn’t end there. T…

"This week, a Senate committee made history by voting unanimously for the Mental Health Reform Act which includes a specific provision that supports people with eating disorders.

The law would:

encourage training for medical professionals and awareness measures for the public to better identify eating disorders
improve insurance coverage for life-saving residential treatment
send a message that these patients deserve the same access to quality health care that's available to those suffering from other medical and mental disorders."

WASHINGTON (ABC7) -- The words eating disorder have never been part of Congressional legislation -- until now. This week, a Senate committee made history by voting unanimously for the Mental Health Reform Act which includes a specific provision that support

"The Whole30 is an elimination diet that eliminates virtually everything except status."

Before I go any further, let me make one thing perfectly clear: this article is about a diet. Yes, I went on that diet and followed it to the letter. No, you’re not going to find out whether I lost…

There has been a lot of media attention on food addiction research. Scientists are curious about this possibility because the brain region (and neurochemicals) involved with substance abuse, are also implicated in overeating. But there are a lot of reasons, other than addiction, that can explain…

Yes!
"Unfortunately it is all too easy to assume that this single standard of beauty is also the single standard of health. That is simply not true."

Have you found yourself following health, wellness or fitness pages to improve your health behaviours, only to find that they actually make you feel guilty, self-critical, anxious or obsessive?

How can we use social media in a positive, balanced way when it comes to our own health?

My one main tip... Follow pages/profiles that boost your self-compassion.

The kind of pages that:

- Encourage you to listen to your own needs
- Recognise that there is not one path to health
- Refrain from dividing foods into ‘good’ vs ‘bad’
- Understand that there are MANY contributors to health and eating/exercise is only a small part of it
- Tell you that you cannot see health (a six pack is not a measure of health and fitness!)
- Share and celebrate a diverse range of bodies
- Recognise a wide range of ways to move our bodies
- Support you in taking time off exercise when you’re fatigued, ill or injured
- Know that your worth has nothing to do with your eating habits, exercise regime or your appearance
- Make you feel good after reading their posts

We get people asking all the time where they can go to find more of the kind of messages that we share. Here are just some of the pages we follow and love (in no particular order). They will help to make your social media feed a heart-warming and encouraging place to be…

If it were not about weight, what would it be about?

Years ago I believed that in order to finally feel comfortable in my own skin, I had to lose weight. Because most days, I felt so uncomfortable, so overwhelmed, so weighed down, so stuffed and so sad. I thought being thin would magically make me feel...
