We welcome Mason Laning of personal training to !

We have shifted to independently contracted personal training services to better serve our clients and utilize our beautiful Grant Street clinic gym space.

Mason chose to train out of CorePhysio because he wants to work with our clients specifically - he knows our clients have high expectations for results as well as enjoying their workouts! Mason's ability to collab with clinicians - and vice versa - is a huge value add for everyone!

We chose Mason because of his knowledge, his life experience as a Navy Veteran, and also because he is the kind of guy who can sit next to anyone in the world and have a great conversation. Approachable, kind and fun, his programming and energy are a great fit for our team and clientele.

For questions about personal training at CorePhysio with Mason, contact him directly through his website.

Welcome Mason!

Advocate for important things that improve lives in your community.

Cheers to the fine humans at , including the amazing Amanda Costigliola PTA, who led a great team to tee up Legislative Action Day in Olympia. It was an honor for CorePhysio's Elizabeth Hampton DPT, WCS, PRPC to spend the day with soon-to-be DPT, Sheryl Lal, as we spoke with 40th District Senator 's team, as well as Representative about these two key bills.

Try on these two scenarios:

Imagine running a business where you cannot change your prices regardless of how your costs change. This is what insurance companies do by keeping their communication doors shut with providers, and not negotiating increased payments for medically necessary care.

HB1589/SB5588 requires insurance companies to negotiate in good faith with healthcare providers.

To be clear: without this bill passing, insurance companies will continue to choose to reduce client access to medically necessary PT care by underfunding it, and compromising the healthcare economic development in Washington State as the demand continues to rise with a reducing workforce.

In the last 4 years, there has been a 42% increase in labor and practice costs, with a 15% reduction in reimbursement, with 21% of PT's leaving the workforce since 2021. The same costs and labor changes impact every single aspect of healthcare, from primary care docs to PT's.

To be clear, is healthy, stable and growing. AND our healthcare system needs your advocacy.

Nationwide data reveals that many healthcare practices of all discplines are struggling. This bill will facilitate economic development for all healthcare businesses, which will improve healthcare access to all Washington communities.

Imagine you are an injured worker who has to wait for an appt with your doc, or their signature on a form, to move forward in your rehab or progress your care. HB2243/SB6152 helps address workforce and healthcare access challenges by supporting Doctors of Physical Therapy in being primary providers for L&I clients, reducing costs, and reducing pressure on PCP's while maintaining client safety. 16 States already allow similar authority with positive results. It's about reducing barriers, supporting safety and getting injured workers the care they need.

Do you know the reasons to visit the ER versus Urgent care? Matching your needs to the right place to seek care is an advocacy skill for your health.

Here is a well-referenced, and current link to help discern these choices.

Article references are current (2024), evidence-based, high quality, and include the American Academy of Urgent Care and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.

Whenever an illness or injury occurs, you need to decide how serious it is and how soon to get medical care. This will help you choose whether it is best to:

You can choose where you receive physical therapy. Tell your doctor that you choose Corephysio, or another local, PT-owned physical therapy clinic of your choice.

Receiving physical therapy care at an independant, PT-owned clinic like CorePhysio provides more cost savings compared to hospital based, and physician-owned physical therapy practices, also known as POPTS.

Check out this article by Brian Hartz, DPT, MPT, OCS, CSCS, who is the President of the Private Practice Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.

He also is my friend and mentor.

Brian, as CEO, and his wife Amy - Hartz PT's CFO - are two of the most intentional business owners I know when it comes to how they care about their staff, their staff's families and their community. At CorePhysio, we feel exactly the same responsibilty and honor to look out for our people and community.

We take the responsibility to provide value to our clients, and to create and sustain a company work choosing for our team.

Brian's article is a quick read with good data: check it out and learn how to protect your out of pocket costs with local, PT-owned physical therapy care.

Have you ever had that dream, where you are running as fast as you can and getting nowhere? Buy local is a solid Bellingham, and Whatcom County concept. But have you ever considered the ownership of your healthcare provider as another way to ?

Want to do something good for Whatcom County? It's very simple: when its right for you, seek healthcare care from the highly skilled, world class professionals in Bellingham and Whatcom County's locally owned healthcare clinics.

When you receive care from a locally owned clinic, your dollars stay in Whatcom County.

When you receive care from a company that's nationally owned or within a vertically integrated system (where a system owns their entire supply chain, like United Healthcare), dollars go back to the Mothership. We are not villifying the system: it's just the way it works, and making an informed decision is what we do in Whatcom County.

It's understandable that there may be situations that warrant seeing someone specific, regardless of who owns the company. For example, its logical that life and death healthcare decisions need to find the answer asap. Some of my favorite PT's work at companies that aren't locally owned, however I can make an informed decision.

Whenever you can - you can choose to put your values in action by supporting local, world class healthcare. For example, Mt Shuksan Family Medicine, Family Care Network, Corephysio, Connect PT NW, and Green Mountain PT are all locally owned.

Understanding the governance and ownership of a company you give your dollars to is an interesting way to consider supporting local.

As always, we fully support each client in receiving the care they need from the provider who is best aligned with that client's preferences and needs.
