A hammertoe is a toe deformity in which the middle joint bends abnormally, causing the toe—most often the second—to take on a curled, hammer-like appearance. It typically develops due to muscle and tendon imbalances, tight or ill-fitting footwear, or underlying structural foot conditions. Common symptoms include pain, stiffness, corns or calluses, and discomfort when wearing shoes.

Treatment depends on whether the toe is still flexible or has become rigid:

• Conservative treatment: Wearing roomier, supportive footwear; using custom orthotics; applying protective padding; and performing targeted stretching and strengthening exercises to relieve pressure and improve alignment.
• Medical management: Trimming painful corns or calluses and using splints or taping techniques to help reposition the toe.
• Surgical correction: Recommended for severe, rigid, or persistently painful hammertoes to straighten the toe and restore proper function.

Early treatment can reduce pain, improve mobility, and help prevent the condition from worsening. Call today for more info!

Warmer weather means more time in sneakers, flats, and damp environments — creating the perfect conditions for toenail fungus to develop. Proper nail care and early treatment can help prevent infection from spreading or worsening.

Here are simple steps to protect your nails this season:

• Keep feet clean and dry
• Change socks daily
• Wear breathable footwear
• Avoid walking barefoot in public areas

Foot pain that lingers isn't always “just soreness.” Persistent discomfort can be linked to underlying issues like plantar fasciitis, tendon injuries, stress fractures, or nerve conditions. When left untreated, small problems can turn into bigger ones that affect daily movement and long-term foot health.

Watch for these warning signs that mean it’s time to get checked:

• Pain that lasts more than a few days
• Swelling or redness
• Numbness or tingling
• Pain when walking or bearing weight
• Wounds that won't heal

If foot pain is slowing you down, trust Cherrywood Foot Care to diagnose and treat the cause — not just the symptoms.

Choosing the right footwear for every activity is essential for comfort, support, and foot health 👟. Key points to consider include:

• Purpose Matters: Shoes for running, walking, work, or casual wear are designed differently to handle impact, stability, and motion.
• Proper Fit: Ensure there’s enough room for toes, secure heel support, and no pinching to prevent blisters and strain.
• Cushioning & Arch Support: The right padding and support reduce stress on feet, ankles, and the lower body.
• Sole & Flexibility: Flexible soles help absorb shock, while stable soles protect against twists and slips.
• Heel Height & Alignment: Choosing appropriate heel height helps maintain proper posture and reduces long-term issues.

Wearing footwear suited to your activity and foot type helps prevent pain, injuries, and long-term complications.

Diabetes can have a significant impact on foot health due to nerve damage (neuropathy) and reduced blood circulation. These changes may lead to numbness, tingling, delayed wound healing, and an increased risk of infection. Even minor issues such as cuts, blisters, or calluses can quickly worsen if left untreated, potentially developing into ulcers or more serious complications. Consistent foot care—including regular inspections, proper hygiene, moisture management, supportive footwear, and professional diabetic foot care—is essential for preventing problems and preserving long-term foot health. Monitoring changes in skin color, temperature, or sensation enables early intervention and better outcomes.

Schedule an appointment with Cherrywood Foot Care today to protect your feet and prevent diabetic complications.

Athlete’s foot and warts are common foot infections caused by fungi and viruses that thrive in warm, moist environments. These conditions often develop in areas exposed to prolonged moisture, such as locker rooms, swimming pools, or tight footwear. Common symptoms include itching, redness, peeling or thickened skin, and small growths, which may become painful or worsen over time if left untreated. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are important not only for relieving discomfort but also for preventing the spread of infection and reducing the risk of complications. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the ligament supporting the arch of the foot becomes irritated or overstressed. Targeted strengthening exercises help support the arch, reduce strain on the plantar fascia, and improve foot stability. Exercises such as towel curls, marble pickups, and calf raises strengthen the intrinsic foot and lower leg muscles. Consistent strengthening can improve shock absorption during walking and standing. When combined with proper footwear and professional guidance, these exercises can significantly reduce pain and prevent recurrence.
