My trip to Honduras Day 7

This was my day traveling back home…back to
my family…my friends…my clinic and coworkers…and this crazy busy life we live here.

As I reflect back on the week and the weeks prior to this trip. I see God’s hand in every detail. With every bump in road, God paved the way each time. I doubted, but God said I’ve got this. Time and time again, God showed me that he was in control…not me….and if you know me you know 😉.

The Lord has put people in my path over the last few weeks that I haven’t seen in years and some I’ve never even met. They prayed with me and for me, they supported me, and most importantly they listened to God’s calling. Y’all! Let’s just stop right there. I cannot count on my hands how many times I heard this saying….I felt the Lord speaking to me…leading me…laying this on my heart. Praise God, praise God..YOU listened. You were a part of answered prayers that people prayed because you listened to God.

Oh that we may all be like this! Oh how God has shown me what he can do with a willing vessel. As I end these posts, I am thankful that God’s love and message was brought to the people in Honduras. I’m thankful that there were willing vessels that listened to Gods direction and guidance. Most of all, I’m thankful that God has been glorified through it all. He is reason I go. It’s not what I can do but what he does through me. Be a willing vessel! Let God be in control of your life! I love you all! ❤️

My trip to Honduras Day 6!

The dreaded day….my last day here! It has been truly a humbling experience. I didn’t want this to be over yet. This day broke me. Parents brought their children from miles up the mountain down to the valley to receive the help they needed! Some caught a ride while others walked. They did whatever it took to get their kids down the mountain. I was honored to serve these kids and their parents this day. I was able to complete evaluations and develop a simple plan for parents and teachers to implement. We worked on learning how to communicate with flash cards and communication boards/devices. We were so blessed to be able to provide a voice to these children. Again, this would not be possible without the help of all of you. Thank you again for your support.

A special thank you to one of my dearest friends. I could not have made it through this week without her. She translated for me all week! Thank you Odalys! You are the best!

Thank you to the team of teachers who came together from all parts of the U.S. to share their love of teaching, love for people, and most importantly their love for God with teachers in Honduras! You were awesome 🤩 The teachers in Honduras left with so many resources and strategies to take back to their classrooms and children.

My trip to Honduras Days 3, 4, and 5

I don’t even know where to begin! This was the most incredible three days I’ve ever spent in Honduras! The teachers came hungry for knowledge. We had four presenters during each day of conference. I presented my portion of the conference each day and focused on educating teachers on how to identify and recognize the signs of speech and language delays. I spoke with teachers from grades Kindergarten through the sixth grade. I also spoke with principals and administrators (directors) of the schools. One director I spoke with had been working with a student one of one that had been identified with speech issues. I sat down, talked with him, and developed and plan. He was overjoyed to take back techniques and strategies to work on with this child.

Throughout these three days of conference, each teacher not only learned to look for the signs of speech and language delays but also how to create a language rich classroom environment! You helped to contribute to that with the books you purchased or money you gave to buy the books. I also provided each teacher with a step by step guide on how to create a language rich environment and how to implement the book of their choice into their classroom. Then, each teacher received a developmental norms checklist to reference and strategies to remediate speech and language delays.

Later during the conference, I developed communication cards and low tech communication boards while training the teachers and parents on how to use them to improve basic communication with their child.

Overall, the teachers and I are very blessed you gave! Thank you so much for your support! Stay tuned for more!

Just sneak peek of a fun filled week! Speech and Language Camp starts tomorrow! We are so excited! 😆 9 am until 11 am for all campers.

This 2 day winter camp can help children strengthen language and social skills while embracing the season’s spirit! 🎄

Tonight Honey In The Rock’s staff is praying specifically for our country. No matter the end results, we will continue to pray for our country and leaders as the Lord has instructed us to do. We can have peace because we know who holds tomorrow.
