Concerning the video circulating the internet.
I will not link the video directly here, as I do not want to add to any growing drama. But as we are being asked questions, I do want to get a response out to our community. The Department of War, a division of the US Government that provides no direct financial support to scouting, has released a video detailing its demanded changes be made to scouting at a national level. As a locally chartered organization, we have no control or say in the decisions made at the national level. We are chartered with our local American Legion and supported by our local Buckeye Council. That being said, I want to be clear, that we at Cub Scout Pack 7126 will continue to enjoy enriching the lives of our scouts as we always have. The decisions made at a national level are not that dissimilar to our current tax season... as in, that they are some changes we deal with once or so a year then continue to live our lives and "Do Our Best" as we do every day. We are a LOCAL organization at heart.
It is a fact that scouting enrollment has taken a hit over the years, more than anything in direct relation to the Covid crisis. We lost more than 65% in that year alone. Since then we have reinvented ourselves with one singular focus... THE SCOUTS! Currently we have dozens of boys and girls enjoying learning in new ways and our renewed focus has seen us double our enrollment every year since 2020. We are a FAMILY pack and will continue to be so. We meet as a family and participate as a family. We officially have boys and girls from kindergarten through 5th grade enrolled with sibling unofficial "Dragon" scouts right along side as young as they can walk. The common sense safety measures such as who sleeps in tents together mentioned so forcefully in the video are and always have been a simple part of being even a parent, let alone a scout leader. The demanded "change" will have no effect on how we already operate.
Simply put, I don't want a forceful video from an entity that provides no direct financial support to scouting, or authority to speak for our leadership, to worry anyone. We will glance over it like any other reel, TikTok, or Vine (is that still a thing) and move on with our lives. We will continue to put our phones and internet away and learn with our hands and eyes. Maybe we will get some policy changes that might have came anyway and will be delayed for sure, and we will move through them as we always do. No matter what, your communities Cub Scout Family Pack 7126 will continue build strong citizens and future leaders. We will keep following the safety guidelines and training we are all taking, and always DO OUR BEST. And our BEST will always be to put KIDS FIRST, and all of them 🙂
