RuthAnn Zimmerman lives on a 22-acre homestead in northeast Iowa with her husband, Elvin, and their five children. RuthAnn and Elvin also have two adult daughters, two sons-in-law, and one grandson. Ruth’s writing has appeared in several print and online publications, including Homesteaders of America, Homestead Mamas, and The Homegrown Sourcebook and soon coming book, The Heart of the Homestead. On her popular website and YouTube, she shares about homesteading, parenting, and cooking.

Ruth Ann shares “As our family grew so did our collection of animals and that’s how the Zimmerman homestead evolved into what you see now. That is how we ended up with 2 milk cows, freezers full of homegrown beef, pork and chicken and enough chores to keep developing the character of our family. Me included. More than I love my family milk cows and all the raw dairy nutrition they provide for us, more than I love gardening and filling the larder with baskets of root crops and the shelves with jars of produce, more than I love raising my chickens on pasture and gathering their eggs, More than I love watching the beef steers grazing in seas of grass, more than all of that, I love the opportunity this lifestyle gives our family to develop the character qualities that bring honor and glory to our Heavenly Father. We are excited to be adding once again to our team as we are hiring at Whitaker’s Natural Market!

We currently have one opening!!!!

We are looking for someone to work a flexible schedule each week (typically 3 - 4 days a week) as well as occasional Sundays. Responsibilities include helping with many different tasks from assisting customers, running the register, restocking, inventory, cleaning, and more! As a family owned business, we are all trained to work every area of the store. Prefer someone who has an interest in natural health.

Our eggs are real organic farm raised corn free soy free eggs. No false marketing. No fancy playing with words. Just what they are.

Raised on our (Marc and Dr Jocelin’s) farm shomereretzfarm where we use all organic practices and all organic feed.

We feed them the same New Country Organics feed we carry in store. Particularly the Organic Corn Free Soy Free Layer Feed.

They get leftover organic veggie and fruit scraps as treats as well as clabbered milk from our organically fed dairy cows (they think that is candy!).

The free range in a fenced in area which is changed regularly (think big chicken yard!) because we have coyotes and bobcats in our woods. This is for their safety.

Every rooster has a name! And a few of the girls do but they all look very similar so they are often called “hennies”!

They have a large henhouse to go in to get out of the weather, lay their eggs, or get shade. But they are not kept in individual cages. Based on their size and how much space they have, it would be equivalent to a human living in an over 6,000 square foot home!

So these are spoiled well fed real live chickens with amazing eggs that are organic corn free soy free eggs!
