Leaving is so painfully hard. Seeing my mom at the beginning of the end of her road breaks my heart in ways I can’t describe. But in the quiet moments of lucidity, I got to tell her the most important thing: Thank you. The morals and values she and my dad instilled in me are the compass of my life. Work hard, be kind to all, love your people, do the right thing even if it’s hard, enjoy every moment and I see them living on in my boys every day. Growing old is not for the weak, it SUCKS!!! As I head home with a heavy heart and a lot of tears, I find peace knowing my dad is waiting there to walk her to the next plane when her time comes (hopefully, ill make it back in time) She said she doesn’t want to leave me. I told her it’s ok to go and not to worry because we will always be together. I’m exhausted and heartbroken, guilty for having to go home to NJ, but so deeply grateful for the woman who made me who I am….and we got to have one “Cheers”. Ofcourse, I smuggled in wine for her😂🍷Life is meant to be lived on your own terms, especially at the end. No one will tell Jo she can’t have a little sip.
