Concussion Rehabilitation: A Neuro-optometric Approach

February 15, 2024, via Zoom, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Concussions and their treatment have received a lot of publicity in recent years. As riders, we should be aware of available rehabilitation therapies.

Join us on February 15 when Dr. Scott Kruachunas, OD, PhD, will present a program designed to help us understand the impact of concussions and how to rehab their effects using vision training. Dr. Kruachunas founded InFocus Eyecare, a general optometric practice in Belmont, NH in 2005. He has developed one of the top concussion rehabilitation programs in New Hampshire and has spoken at several regional and national conferences on concussions and the impact that vision training has on recovery. The eyes are the windows to the health of your body, so your vision is more than just seeing 20/20. Vision is a dynamic, changing process that includes how well the eyes see (visual acuity), how the brain processes the information, and the overall health of the body which will influence the health of the eyes. A pair of eyes do not just walk into our office, but an individual with a history, personality, and needs that will be unlike those of any other person. To that end, we are ushering in a new era of eye care. One that utilizes the latest in diagnostic technology, skills, training, products, education and philosophies to care for your visual system and entire body as a whole.

As Optometrists, we are particularly interested in how your vision is functioning. While the health and structure of your eyes are important, we go beyond a regular eye exam to asses all of the different vision skills to determine if they are developing properly. Our Functional Vision Evaluations can identify different vision problems that can effect behavior, classroom learning, daily tasks, and quality of life. Vision conditions such as amblyopia, convergence insufficiency (double vision at near), eye tracking problems, or vision issues after a concussion or traumatic brain injury can be improved significantly with our office-based vision therapy program. We also perform baseline concussion testing for ages 6+ and assist in the management and treatment of concussions.
