If you have diabetes, you’ve probably heard of “peripheral neuropathy.” But what is it? Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the nerves in the feet caused by very high or low blood sugar. It can cause burning, tingling, or numbness in your feet. The pain can be severe, even waking you up at night, and numbness can prevent you from feeling injuries to your feet. If you’ve noticed tingling or numbness, see your podiatrist right away, and be sure to check your feet daily for any signs of injuries or wounds. www.apma.org/peripheralneuropathy
