Be the adult that you want your kids to grow up to be.
My mother came to this country full of hope and love for what America could be. And that is why I am able to be here today, as an integrative pediatrician, serving families and doing my best to help raise resilient kids from the inside out.
My mother left a legacy of love and hope, and that is the legacy I want to leave for my kids, and for children everywhere.
Our kids are watching us. Always.
They’re watching how we treat people who look different from us.
They’re watching how we respond to fear.
They’re watching whether we choose compassion or division, connection or silence.
As a pediatrician, I’ve spent my career understanding how early experiences shape developing brains and bodies. We know that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) don’t just come from what happens inside a home. They come from the world children witness around them.
When children see adults treating other humans as less than human …
When children grow up in a climate of fear, whether that fear touches their own family or the families of their classmates and neighbors …
When children learn that some people don’t deserve dignity …
These experiences don’t just live in their memories.
They live in their nervous systems, their stress responses, and their developing sense of safety in the world.
So today I’m asking myself, and gently asking you:
What are we, as adults and as a nation, modeling?
Are we showing our children how to lead with empathy? Are we demonstrating that every human being has inherent worth? Are we teaching them that courage can look like kindness, even when it’s hard?
Our children will inherit the world we create. Let’s make sure we’re building one worthy of them.
With love (and hope),
