It’s been well over a year since I’ve posted on here! So much life has happened but one thing remains constant….my love for learning and teaching!
Earlier this year I had the opportunity to be a part of the retreat. It was truly a special event with so many amazing instructors and attendees!

🔰 Having a clear understanding of our goals is great but really understanding and learning to enjoy the process is key to that success. ⁣

🔰 It’s why I’m a big proponent of doing and training the things that truly resonate with YOU! Our health and fitness should be a lifelong journey and sustainability will coincide with our love for the process.⁣

THE #1 DRILL YOU'RE NOT DOING ENOUGH OF 🤨⁣

🔰Arching Scapular Pull-ups⁣

💪🏽 If you want crazy strong pulling strength then you need a scapula that can handle the work. ⁣

👉🏽 I typically do 2-3 sets of 6-8 reps with a 3-5 second hold at the top of each rep (sets and reps vary to your ability)⁣

Whether you’re chasing the elusive One Arm Chin-up or just starting your fitness journey (modify with feet on the floor) then this is one of the drills that’s a MUST to incorporate!!⁣

Training is a gateway to learn about oneself in a way they may never have and there are many ways of training that one can learn about.⁣

My advice 👇🏽⁣
🔰Learn, refine, repeat....⁣

😃 Find something you enjoy and really aim to learn about and your body within that context. This helps build a good foundation that you can carry with you to other things if you choose to.⁣

❤️ Kettlebells were one the first tools I ever started using on my fitness journey and have loved them ever since! Finally been able to get back to them since I was able to get another pair.⁣

When it comes to training...things take time! For mobility, it’s not any different. ⁣

Tips:⁣
🔰 Train mobility on its own ⁣
🔰 Integrate it as much as YOU need⁣
👉🏽 Every body is different, some require more and some require less input to desired output. ⁣

The best way is to keep “feeding” your body the things it requires as often as you can. This doesn’t have to take a ton of time, but should get the right amount of attention and intention so you’re using time wisely. ⁣

The floor is your friend....but it can also be your nemesis depending on your relationship with it (or lack of). I prefer to remain friends 😁⁣

We learned to move from the ground up.....but once we were up, we never went back down to keep what had allowed us to grow. ⁣

Various forms of ground based movement to incorporate into your training:⁣

🔰 Crawling ⁣
🔰 Squatting ⁣

There’s so much to explore within each of these contexts and will allow you to become friends with the floor once again!⁣

🌬 Even when it’s hard to breathe, continue putting one foot in front of the other and eventually you’ll get there.⁣

👂🏽 Learn to listen; Filter out the “noise”, your surroundings have a lot to tell you. ⁣

⏰ Adaptation takes time, so whatever it is you’re working on be patient and process oriented.⁣

🛑🙅🏽‍♂️ Never stop! There’s something amazing waiting for you around every turn! ⁣

🔰 Whether it’s the pandemic that brought our world to a screeching halt, creating actionable solutions for the injustices in our broken system, or managing your personal health and well being.....all these lessons apply. 🔑 LEVERAGE ⁣🔑

A powerful tool that can be used widely across a variety of focuses. When it comes to our health (and beyond) I like to check in and see how I can best leverage two things; Time and Energy.⁣

⏰ Time in essence, is infinite, yet for us is finite.⁣

♻️ Energy is all around us, yet we only have so much to give. ⁣

Whether it’s:⁣

🔰What and how to train to achieve a desired outcome (strength, mobility, movement, ect)⁣

🔰When to fit in your training with a busy schedule ⁣

🔰How to manage your energy for the rest of your day ⁣

👉🏽Being able to leverage your TIME and ENERGY for all these and more is what will help create sustainable and actionable habits! ⁣

Things I like to do to manage my health for efficiency and effectiveness:⁣

☀️ Start early! Morning mindfulness and training sessions set me up for a strong start to the day!⁣

👌🏽Keep it simple! Understanding specific goals allows the process to be simpler which will help save both time and energy.⁣

😁Enjoy the process! This may not be the case at first but it’s hard to do things that you don’t actually like doing! So find what resonates to create a structure that feeds into your success!⁣

I’ve trained my whole life for this and it feels like I’m just getting started! 🙌🏽

🧠 The journey of understanding never really ends, we just continue to uncover different layers of ourselves that we may not have known existed, if we choose to of course.

💪🏽 When it comes to keeping my body strong and healthy, I apply a few basic principles and everything else is just a bonus from there. Choosing the correct principles for myself, however, has taken a lifetime of dialing in.

Everything from 👇🏽
- Breath work and cold exposure
- Mobility and movement
- Retraining my feet to be feet again
- Basic strength training
- Learning to build an aerobic base

⏰ Each of these things has taken time to study within myself and with my clients. And now they are at my disposal to apply when I’m out in nature and the only thing that matters is to be present with nature.

For the TL;DR version:
🔰 Spend the time to build a strong foundation
🔰 Then go USE IT!

Finding motivation for training can be tough....especially during these trying times.
In a world of endless “shiny” IG fitness content and those “try this” HIIT circuits that rarely help you make any actual progress,it’s easy to know what and how to structure things. Sometimes simplifying your goals is the best way to motivate yourself.
I was in a rut with my training and decided to start doing the uncomfortable things that I never really enjoyed. Endurance training has never been “fun” for me so my I set a goal to see if I can begin to enjoy it. I’m two weeks into my 20 mile/week runs and logging hours on the bike as well. So far, it hasn’t been too bad, but the work has just begun so I’m buckling you for the ride 🙌🏽🤙🏽
