Ever wonder what we see when you’re staring at the little hot air balloon? 🎈👀
This is it!
This is our autorefractor (the NIDEK ARK-530A), and while you’re focusing on the balloon, the machine is measuring how light reflects off your eye.
Here’s what it does:
✨ Sends a small beam of light into your eye
✨ Measures how that light bounces back from your retina
✨ Calculates an estimate of your prescription (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism)
✨ Measures the curve of your cornea (keratometry readings)
What we see on the screen:
• S (Sphere) – tells us if you’re nearsighted or farsighted
• C (Cylinder) – measures astigmatism
• A (Axis) – the direction of the astigmatism
• K readings – the curvature of your cornea
It gives us a starting point — but it’s not your final prescription. That’s why the doctor still refines everything during your exam with “Which is better, 1 or 2?”
That little balloon is doing more than you think! 🎈✨
