We are in our twelfth year of providing a number of exemplary programs for consumers. Our centers our strategically located throughout San Mateo County. Our goal for the self-help centers is to provide programs and activities that help people who suffer from mental illness learn to cope with their symptoms and improve the quality of their lives. Accordingly, we offer activities such as symptom man

agement (including the development and use of Wellness and Recovery Action Plans), support groups for different kinds of mental illness, life skill development groups and a variety of social activities. We believe that consumers of mental health services deserve dignity and respect as members of society. The stigma of mental illness is debilitating, unfair and should be eradicated. Consumers are capable of providing quality services and support to other consumers. By working together, consumers will have a positive impact on system services, policies and legislation that affects their lives.

SUNDAY EVENING
5:30 pm PST-7:30 pm PACIFIC TIME
Journaling Out Loud
One New Heartbeat invites you to experience the transformative healing power of personal journaling in a supportive virtual group setting. Writing is encouraged but entirely optional during this gathering. Each session begins with a provided writing prompt, allowing participants to connect with themselves through thoughtful reflection and group discussion.
Through guided exercises in active listening, participants are encouraged to express their thoughts by "journaling out loud" — sharing insights and emotions in a safe and nurturing environment.

Session Structure:
Wellness Check-In: Every session begins with a mindful check-in to create a grounded, welcoming space.
Writing Style: We will explore expressive writing, a powerful tool for processing personal conflicts or emotional struggles. This practice focuses on releasing internal stressors by putting them on paper — a neutral space for honest reflection.

Sharing is always optional. Whether you choose to write privately or share your thoughts aloud, this group encourages you to release emotions like anger, sadness, or resentment without fear of judgment. Together, we create a space for healing, self-discovery, and emotional support.

Our Story

Heart and Soul Inc. was founded in July of 2005. We are in our fifteenth year of providing a number of exemplary peer support programs for individuals with mental health challenges. Our self-help centers are strategically located throughout San Mateo County.

Our goal is to provide programs and activities at our centers which will help people who suffer from mental health disorders to cope with their symptoms, promote recovery, and improve the quality of their lives. Accordingly, we offer activities such as symptom management (including the development and use of Wellness and Recovery Action Plans), support groups for different kinds of mental health challenges, life skill development, and a variety of social activities.

We believe that consumers of mental health services deserve dignity and respect as members of society. The stigma of mental illness is debilitating, unfair, and should be eradicated. Mental health peers are capable of providing quality services and support to other consumers. By working together, our advocacy will have a positive impact on system services, policies, and legislation that affect our lives.
