Homecare Pharmacy

Homecare Pharmacy opened in 1986 at the present site, which had been a grocery store for many years. The building had been vacant for over a year so a complete remodeling of the interior was needed. Before opening, we did a survey of the neighborhood to find out from the local residents what they would like in the pharmacy. Many said we should put in a large grocery section, so we did just that. One of the reasons we opened the pharmacy was because there was a need for a local durable medical equipment provider. To meet that need, Joe McNamara became a partner and is in charge of the DME department. Over the years the number of independent, locally owned pharmacies has declined to the point where we have been the sole independent for 15 years. Homecare has become a one-stop pharmacy providing not only prescription medications, but also medical equipment which allows a person to stay in their own home, if at all possible. Special medication packaging, as with medboxes or medcards, is a service that is very popular and affordable. In 2016 Homecare Pharmacy decided to join the Hometown Pharmacy family. And in 2017, Joe's son, Evan, joined the staff as a pharmacist. Evan had actually worked at the pharmacy since he was about 10, cleaning medical equipment and stocking shelves and working his way up through the ranks. He graduated from the UW School of Pharmacy in 2017. The pharmacy has been involved in many civic activities over the years, such as working closely with Beloit Regional Hospice and more recently, VetsRoll. Supporting local charities and events is important for any business to give back to the community that supports them.

Hello, I'm Steve. I was born and raised in Beloit and went through the Beloit school system, graduating from BMHS in 1970. After graduating from UW School of Pharmacy in 1976, I worked in Janesville until 1978. At that time, an opportunity presented itself to work in Zaire, Africa as a short term medical missionary for 2 years (1979-1980) with my wife Kathy, who is an RN. We taught, in French, at a nursing school and helped set up several area dispensaries. That was a fascinating and rewarding experience which we'll never forget. Upon returning to the states, I worked at another independent pharmacy in Beloit until 1986. At that time, my current partner Joe McNamara and I started Homecare Pharmacy. Joe manages the durable medical equipment area. That was over 33 years ago and we are both still passionate about meeting the healthcare needs of people in the greater Beloit area. In 2017 we joined the Hometown Pharmacy group allowing us to compete more effectively against the big box pharmacies. Joe's son, Evan, is now a pharmacist at Homecare and he joins our staff in continuing the tradition of patient care excellence. My wife and I have 3 children. My son Matt lives in Green Bay with his wife, Michelle, and 4 kids and owns a property renovation and remodeling business. My daughter, Becky, works at Homecare as the customer service supervisor. My other daughter, Chrisitina, is an elementary school teacher in Janesville. Becky has 2 kids and her husband Josh is the head men's basketball coach at Beloit College. Go Bucs! In my time away from Homecare, I enjoy being outside doing yardwork and watching my grandkids participate in multiple sports. I had an orchard, the Apple Pantry, which I closed 3 years ago since I didn't have the time to properly care for my 900 trees. If you would like to receive the personalized treatment you deserve, we'd love to have you come to Homecare Pharmacy.
