It's goal setting time...
Gary Young on setting goals ✨
How to get ready for the new year—with vision, faith, and belief.
As we turn the page and start a new season, Gary’s words remind us to dream bigger, believe deeper, and never let limits define us. His approach to goal setting wasn’t about perfection—it was about passion, persistence, and purpose. Here’s what he taught us:
1️⃣ Set goals that feel impossible.
“If you don’t set a goal that’s impossible and look toward it, then what you wind up doing is setting little goals; and you might accomplish them, but the accomplishment is not big enough to excite you enough to go for the big ones.”
Set the goal as big as you can. Don’t limit yourself before you even begin.
2️⃣ Build the steps after you dream big.
“Then you build the steps to it and that which you can perceive in your mind. When I set goals, I set no limitations at all.”
Start with the vision, not the how. The path reveals itself when your purpose is clear.
3️⃣ Protect your belief from outside opinions.
“If you allow other people’s opinions to affect your belief and your goals, you’re never going to make it. You’ll never see it happen and become reality.”
Hear what you want to hear. Don’t let doubt from others dim your conviction. “No one else in this world matters—believe in your dreams.”
4️⃣ Use time frames to create accountability.
“Sometimes the people around you will get annoyed because you put time frames on goals. But the reason that I include time frames is because if I don’t, I won’t push myself to make it happen.”
Deadlines aren’t pressure—they’re purpose. They remind you to move, grow, and follow through.
As Gary showed us, setting goals isn’t just about reaching them. It’s about who you become in the process.
What’s one goal you’re setting for the new year that challenges you and excites you at the same time?
