The last four days have been nothing short of incredible. I had the honor of serving three beautiful families as a birth doula! Their due dates were weeks apart, so they were supposed to be all spread out. But, that's not what happened! Two mamas went past their due dates and one went early.
The week before, I spent time praying and asking my small group and friends to join me in praying that I could be present for all three births. And you guys, the Lord answered those prayers! 🙏
My first birth took place last Saturday at 2:30 pm. It was a beautiful homebirth, and I witnessed such a redeeming and empowering birth experience for the mama. The next day, Sunday, I was at a hospital in Kansas by 12:30 pm, where a returning client hired me last minute to be a part of her second birth. This birth was intense as I witnessed the baby trying to come out with vertex shoulder dystocia. Praise the Lord, both baby and mama are doing great!
Then on Monday, my third client went into labor in the morning and labored through the day and night. I was able to go home, sleep for a bit, and head back around 7:00 am on Tuesday to relieve dad, so he could rest before the baby arrived. Mama was such a champ, and she delivered her baby on Tuesday at 2:30 pm. It was a beautiful birth with an amazing birth team. The midwife even snapped a few pictures of me giving mom some counterpressure.
As I drove home, I reflected on my journey as a doula and felt incredibly blessed to have witnessed 85 babies being born—some in hospitals and others in homebirths. By 5:00 pm, I was home with my family, enjoying dinner and an Epsom salt bath to soothe my achy body.
Thank you, Father, for providing for me and allowing me to walk alongside these amazing families as they welcomed their babies. Thank you for the tears, the heartaches, the joy, and the incredible rewards of being a doula, a midwifery student, and a witness to labor. ❤️
