According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there was a nearly 27% decline in drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2024. These positive strides are promising, but there's still important work ahead.

At Overland Park Regional Medical Center, every birth story is personal and every family is cared for with compassion and expertise.

When Milo was born, his family described their experience as everything they hoped for — calm, supportive and centered around trust.

“I approached [my midwife] with my anxiety about the medicalization of childbirth and expressed my hope that my experience could be ‘like a home birth that just happens to have a NICU down the hall.’ In the end, that was exactly what I had,” said Aja, mother of baby Milo.

Under the care of certified nurse midwife Courtney Carlson, doula Charity Vazquez and maternity navigator Lisa Holk, the family experienced high-quality care that honored their birth preferences including freedom to move, limited interventions, hydrotherapy, delayed cord clamping and extended skin-to-skin time.

Milo’s birth captures what HCA Midwest Health stands for: care that empowers every family, from the first visit to the first cry.

With labor and delivery hospitals across the Kansas City area, we make it convenient to receive exceptional pregnancy and childbirth care. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4qaXTK5

Today is , a global initiative to raise awareness about the importance of mental health.

Mental health challenges are universal and can affect anyone, regardless of background or circumstance. This day serves as a reminder to foster compassion, break the stigma and advocate for stronger support systems.

HCA Midwest Health's Research Psychiatric Center is one of the largest providers of behavioral healthcare services in the Kansas City area. As one of the few comprehensive inpatient facilities, we are equipped to treat depression, anxiety, grief, anger and other emotions and behaviors that can cause long-term strife.

Whether through professional counseling, peer support, or moments of self-care, each of us plays a role in creating a space where mental health is a priority. Together, we can build a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.

screening looks different at every age. Experts recommend that you start talking with your doctor about your personal risk of breast cancer as early as age 25. Depending on your family history or other factors, you may qualify for genetic counseling, earlier screening or both.

If you have a higher risk of breast cancer, screening may begin as early as age 30, or 10 years before the age a close relative was diagnosed. Because each person’s health needs are unique, it’s important to talk with your doctor about a personalized approach to screening.

Organizations that set medical screening guidelines now universally recommend starting mammogram screening at age 40 if you have an average risk of breast cancer. Across our broader HCA Healthcare network, caregivers perform approximately 1.5 million mammograms each year, helping patients take proactive steps toward early detection and better outcomes.

We are committed to making our communities safer and healthier. In an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of prescription drug misuse and importance of safe disposal, we’re joining HCA Healthcare hospitals across the nation for our seventh annual Crush the Crisis Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event, which coincides with the DEAHQ’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, offers the community an opportunity to safely and anonymously dispose of medications that may be unused from previous procedures or other medical visits.

In 2024, HCA Healthcare joined local law enforcement at 125 collection sites to collect and properly dispose of more than 21,000 pounds of unused or expired medications – the equivalent of an estimated 14.5 million doses.

Positively impacting our community takes teamwork. Help us on Saturday, October 25, 2025, by safely and anonymously dropping off your medications at Belton Regional Medical Center from 10 am to 2 pm. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3IyUDr2.
