Phyllis Colleen Seibert

Phyllis Colleen Seibert, 88, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born July 11, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Phyllis was raised on a large rural farm. She attended Jefferson High School, graduating with the Class of 1955. Growing up on the farm, she developed a deep love for horses and enjoyed competing in barrel racing at local rodeos.
After high school, Phyllis attended business college and began a career in business administration. In 1959 she married Jerry Lynn Hodges, and the couple moved east to the Baltimore, Maryland area. Together they had three children: Michael, Kathryn, and Julia.
After her divorce, she married William “Bill” Seibert in 1975. Phyllis later worked for many years with the Prince George’s County School System in Maryland.

She was an avid reader and took great pleasure in dancing, music, and traveling. Upon retirement, Phyllis enjoyed an active life in The Villages, Florida, before relocating to Pensacola in her later years. Phyllis had a friendly, outgoing personality and easily made many friends wherever her travels took her. Her smile, laughter, compassion, humor, and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church (Pensacola, FL) on Friday, April 17th with visitation at 10:00 AM and Mass at 11:00 AM.
A “Celebration of Life” will be scheduled soon in Maryland.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers at this time.

David thought he was losing his mind.

There, under the bright stadium lights at his daughter’s soccer game, the goalposts suddenly started bending like warm taffy.

The ball twisted in mid-air as if reality itself was glitching. He blinked hard, rubbed his eyes, looked away, looked back—still melting.

No pain.

No headache.

Just the world warping right in front of him.“I’m cracking up,” he whispered to himself, panic rising. He didn’t tell his wife. Who would believe that?

He started avoiding night driving, stopped reading street signs, convinced he was one step away from a breakdown.

Finally, on a random Tuesday, he dragged himself to the optometrist—just for new glasses, he swore. “My eyes are fine otherwise,” he told the technician. “I just need the prescription updated.”The doctor ran the full exam anyway.Halfway through, everything went quiet. The optometrist leaned in, studying the retinal images on the screen.“David… this isn’t in your head.”The scan showed early macular degeneration. Those “melting” goalposts? Classic early distortion—straight lines turning wavy, objects warping—while his central vision still tested “pretty good.” No pain. No obvious blur he’d noticed in daily life. Just like glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and a dozen other serious conditions that steal sight in total silence. They give you zero warning until the damage is advanced and much harder to treat.

David sat stunned.

He thought of his daughter’s face, the games he almost stopped attending, the life he loved—all of it quietly slipping away while he blamed his sanity. With the help of a retinal specialist David is receiving the proper treatment and has reason to be optimistic. And he tells every parent sitting nearby the same thing: “I thought the world was literally melting and I was going insane. Turns out I just needed one eye exam.

”Don’t wait until something feels “crazy” or your vision finally fades. One quick, painless check updates your glasses AND protects your eye health for decades.

Sarah had always been the practical one. At 48, she juggled a full-time job, two teenagers, and weekend hikes without missing a beat. Her reading glasses sat on her nose for menus and phone screens, but everything else? Crystal clear. “I don’t need an eye exam,” she’d laugh when her husband reminded her. “I can still spot a hawk from the trailhead. My eyes are fine.”

Then came the Tuesday that changed everything. She finally booked the appointment—just for new glasses, she told herself.

The optometrist’s office smelled like fresh coffee and lens cleaner. The technician ran the usual tests, then the doctor leaned in with the bright light and special lens.“Prescription looks good,” Dr. Patel said, still peering. Then her voice quieted. “Sarah… I need to show you something.”

On the screen glowed a detailed map of Sarah’s optic nerve. A tiny area was already damaged—glaucoma, the silent kind. No pain. No warning. No blurry spots Sarah had noticed. The doctor explained that many serious eye conditions—glaucoma, macular degeneration, even diabetic eye disease—work exactly like this. They steal sight quietly, painlessly, while you go about your life thinking everything is normal. By the time vision loss feels obvious, it’s often too late for simple fixes.Sarah sat frozen. She thought of her hikes, her kids’ faces, the mountain views she loved. All of it could have slipped away without her ever feeling a thing.Dr. Patel started treatment that same week—eye drops, simple and effective because they’d caught it early.

Six months later Sarah stood on her favorite trail, hawk soaring overhead, and realized she could have missed this view forever. She tells everyone now: “Don’t wait until something feels wrong. One quick exam checks your prescription AND your eye health. It takes thirty minutes and can save a lifetime of sight.”

Because the truth is, your eyes deserve more than just new frames.Book your comprehensive eye exam today—before the silence becomes permanent. Your future self will thank you.

The glowing eyes of cats in the dark are caused by a special reflective layer called the tapetum lucidum. This layer, located behind the retina, acts like a mirror, reflecting light that passes through the retina back into the eye. This increases the amount of light available to the photoreceptor cells, allowing cats to see more clearly in low-light conditions. The tapetum lucidum is responsible for the eerie glow often seen in a cat's eyes when light hits them at night. It also contributes to their exceptional night vision, helping them to hunt in the dark with remarkable precision.
