Boone County Health Dept - Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor provides specific breastfeeding support & educational services. We'd love to provide that supportive environment for you.

We are moms just like YOU, here to help navigate your breastfeeding journey! It can be challenging and a bit scary when you're a new mom - support is so important. Who are Breastfeeding Peer Counselors and Wh

at Do They Do? Peer counselors are mothers who have personal experience with breastfeeding and are trained to provide basic breastfeeding information and support to other mothers with whom they share various characteristics. Peer counselors provide breastfeeding recommendations in a socially and culturally appropriate context, and promote breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the mother and baby.

Many moms think crying is the only sign that their baby is hungry, but more often this is it’s actually a sign of distress. Hungry babies will show signs of hunger before they begin to cry. Watching for and responding promptly to your baby’s hunger signs may help prevent them from crying. Once baby is crying, it can be harder to latch.
