Northwoods Caregivers Connecting, Enriching, and Empowering the Lives of Northwoods Individuals and Families.

The idea of Northwoods Interfaith was introduced to the area after three separate surveys identified a gap in services to the elderly and people with special needs. The Bemidji Area Council of Nonprofits was asked to become the lead agency on this new program's development and in 1997, a meeting of area congregations, interested residents, and human service agencies was held to research community response to the project. The group then assigned a steering committee to carry out the necessary work, and in July of 1998, a full time Executive Director was hired. Since then, the program has grown to include more staff and has provided more than 10,000 hours of direct service each year. Funding for Northwoods Caregivers provided by:

WOW! Another successful Senior Community Clean-Up Event in the books! Our community showed up in a big way this year with over 250 volunteers coming together to rake over 40 yards for seniors and people with disabilities in Bemidji. That is 5 large dumpsters PACKED with leaves! Thank you to all of our sponsors for supporting this event. Thank you to our partners the United Way of Bemidji Area and Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area! And again thank you to all of our amazing volunteers of all ages!! See you all next year! 😄

Senior community clean-up happening now! Rakers are out on their assignments until around 2pm today.
Volunteers- make sure to sign up for the door prize drawing before noon today! When you are done with your yards, please come get your local gift cards for lunch!

Tomorrow is our 26th Annual Senior Community Clean-Up Event!!
Volunteers will be out raking yards from about 8:30am-2pm. If you are having your yard raked, please put out the leaf bags for the volunteers to use first.

Volunteer Schedule:

8:00am: Check in at the boys and girls club to get your assignments. *If you are a group, only the group leader will check-in at the registration table. Continental breakfast will be available.

8:30am: Volunteers Rake Yards!

Noon: Gift cards available to local restaurants for lunch upon returning sheet with stats. Door prize drawings at noon, winner will be contacted via phone.

The weather should be beautiful for working outside! We will see you all tomorrow!

We have some exciting events coming up in Cass Lake!

Diabetes Self Management and Chronic Disease Self Management series start October 30th on Thursdays from 10am-3pm. Take one class or both! Lunch will be served between the 2 classes, and participants that complete a series will receive a local food gift card.

Join us Saturday November 1st for our first Cass Lake Caregiver Conference! It is our day to serve you! We will have great food, wonderful conversation, and a guest speaker Gina from Services for the Blind.

Both events will be held at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church 301 Cedar Ave Cass Lake, MN

Seniors in Bemidji, please register for our Senior Community Clean-Up event for free leaf raking! If you are age 60+ and live in the Bemidji city limits, you qualify for volunteers to rake your leaves into bags and haul them away at no cost to you.
Please share this information with your parents, grandparents, and any elders age 60+ that live in Bemidji city limits.

Who is a Caregiver?
An informal caregiver is someone who provides care without pay. Examples of care include:
• Personal assistance (bathing, dressing, grocery shopping, transportation)
• Household tasks (cooking, cleaning, paying bills)
• Medication management (medication reminders, medication set-up)
• Emotional support
• Coordinating care services (Dr. appointments, meetings)

Who Is a Care Receiver?
A care receiver is anyone age 60 or older or has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder who receives support. This could be:
• A parent, spouse, sibling, aunt/uncle, cousin, grandchild, grandparent
• A neighbor, friend, church member, coworker, or community member.

Northwoods Caregivers offers caregiver support and services.
