Looking for an antidote to whatever you may be feeling in these uncertain, unprecedented times? Inauguration day approaches and life is…just getting weird. Let this 1-hour forest bathing experience be a refuge and a safe space to get grounded and to find solace and belonging in the comfort of nature. In these turbulent times, we desperately need community practices and rituals that nourish our bodies, minds, hearts, and souls. This practice includes a brief sensory opening meditation, a nature connection invitation to reduce stress and anxiety, and a closing community circle for sharing and listening in a non-judgmental space.

You may have noticed that I haven’t been very active on here lately. I’ve been taking time this winter to really slow down and focus on my own self care, but I also took time to dive deep into the practice of EcoNIDRA and have become a certified EcoNIDRA teacher!

What is EcoNIDRA? It’s rooted in the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra, and is a blend of Yoga Nidra and forest therapy. Like Yoga Nidra, you lie down in a comfortable position and follow the voice of a guide. During the session, you bring your attention to your breath, various sensations, and different parts of your body, helping you enter a state between wakefulness and sleep. Then you are taken on a journey through the earth, listening to natural soundscapes and allowing the imaginal sense to take you wherever you wish to go. Unlike some forms of meditation that require active concentration, EcoNIDRA allows you to simply let go and be guided into a state of deep relaxation.

I’m looking forward to sharing this practice with you, both in person and virtually!

The American Psychiatric Association is finally recognizing forest bathing as an important mental health tool! Will you make it a part of your practice this year?

“It is not simply a walk in the woods, but a conscious and contemplative practice of being immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of the forest.”

“Researchers have established a growing body of scientific literature on the diverse health benefits, including improving health and well-being at the physiological, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual levels.”

“Researchers concluded that interacting with nature may be useful clinically as a supplement to existing treatments for major depression. Forest therapy has also shown the potential to help in recovery from trauma and PTSD.”

“Self-guided forest therapy provided an opportunity for self-reflection to focus on and think about one’s inner self, while guided forest therapy programs provided positive emotional changes and promoting social bonds through interaction with others. Both forms provided numerous health benefits, including change of mind and body, introspection, change of emotion, cognitive change, and social interaction.”

Happy winter solstice. I hope you are able to take the time to honor the changing of the season and tune in to nature’s slower rhythm. Even though the new year is right around the corner, perhaps consider that the new year doesn’t start until spring, when things start to bud and blossom, and this is still a time for cocooning, slowness, and deep, deep rest.

It’s that time of year…if you’re anything like me and prefer thoughtful gifts, or experiences over things, perhaps you’ll consider giving your loved ones the gift of presence. Now available on my website (link in bio), you can buy gift certificates! And I’m so excited to bring you even more offerings in 2024! Stay tuned…but get ready for more deep rest practices to bring you more into aliveness and connection with yourself and the natural world.

Less stuff, more connection and meaning. 💚

Fall forest bathing! Take this opportunity to follow nature’s rhythm. Turn inward, rest, let go of the things that no longer serve you.

These may be my last (public) walks for the season…I hope to see you there!

“We should take time to be silent and more mindful during our walks together.”

Two friends who spend a lot of time outside (one a retired park ranger) try forest bathing for the first time. After a few hours of wandering in the woods, connecting deeply to their environment using their senses, embracing moments of stillness and quiet, they’ve come away with the realization of the profound impact simply BEing with nature can have, and wanting to incorporate more of that in their daily lives.

Even if you spend a lot of time outside, forest bathing can change your perspective on how you spend that time, and ultimately, how to live your day to day life.

We are living in an age of loneliness. We’re all so disconnected from ourselves, each other, and the more than human world. We’ve lost our rituals, ceremonies, and practices that ground us to the earth and bring us back into relationship and belonging.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Forest bathing can be an antidote.

Let me guide you into intimate relationship with the land you recreate on, to intentionally slow down enough to remember that everything in nature is connected. Let me hold space for deep listening and sharing our meaningful experiences with each other.

We need this. We need nature-based community practices to strip away the stories of who we think we are so that we can inhabit who we truly are.

September is for Softening. Surrender. Slowness. Easing ourselves into the transition of the seasons. Unraveling. Unwinding. Listening to our heart and body and less of the mind. Stillness. Silence. Deep rest. Stretch. Open. Expand. Let go of resistance. Let the life in. Soften. Stay soft.
