Enneagram 6s: your turn for journal prompts, based on your genuine needs!

Learning to pay attention to and integrate thoughts, feelings and experiences is REALLY helped by journaling, so I'm sharing journal prompts over the next few weeks based on each Type's genuine needs.

The genuine needs of an Enneagram 6 are found in the image above.

Enneagram 6s, when thinking about these specific needs, answer the following questions in your journal:

6️⃣Which of these genuine wants and needs most resonate? Why? What is the origin story of this need?

6️⃣ Where or with whom are these needs best met? When am I most myself?

6️⃣ Where or with whom are these needs neglected? Where do I pretend or perform?

6️⃣ How can I apply the truth of these needs into takeaways for daily practice, in relationship to myself and to others?

Can I get vulnerable with you for a minute?

I have spent the better part of the last few years learning to get more in touch with my emotions. I’m an Enneagram 9, which means I struggle with anything that causes internal conflict, and let me just say—feeling angry, sad, or even strong joy causes a degree of discomfort for me. I like to keep things safe, manageable, and in my control.

Maybe you relate? Most of my 9 clients in private practice also struggle to identify, name, and sit with their emotions. What I’ve learned, however, is that as a body type, I tend to carry my emotions in my body if I haven’t dealt with them. There is so much research on this, but a great place to start is with Bessel Van der Kolk’s book, The Body Keeps the Score.

Unless we can learn to identify, express, and resolve core emotions, we tend to get stuck in meta-emotions like anxiety, guilt, or shame. Whereas core emotions like anger or sadness can resolve in 90-120 seconds, anxiety and shame can linger for days, weeks, or seasons.

After reading The Wisdom of the Body and It’s Not Always Depression last year, I started incorporating some very specific, new ways of slowing down, tuning in to my body, and giving myself permission to feel, process, and express all the things I usually keep inside. It’s been so transformational for me, and I’m ready to share what I’ve learned with you.

Over the next few weeks, I’d love to share my heart, my knowledge, and my practices with you. Thanks for being here. You are worth the hard work of transformation. 💙

Finishing the series on Wings with Enneagram 3!

3️⃣ can go to 2️⃣ or 4️⃣ for their Wing, and these numbers add a little flavor, complementing the Enneagram 3.

3️⃣w2️⃣, also known as the Charmer, has the people-centered double power of the 3 and 2 working together. This type is sociable, emotive, expressive, communicative, and high-energy.

3️⃣w4️⃣ is referred to as the Professional. This Type tends to care less about what people think, and is more internally motivated. The 4 Wing adds creativity and originality, as well as introspection!

As you can see, our Wing really influences and changes our Type as we take on characteristics of the Wing. I hope this series has been helpful and educational!

For our 3s out there, which Wing do you identify with? Are you more of the Charmer, or the Professional?

Next up: 2️⃣ Wings! 🦋

Our loving, caring, helpful 2s can go to either a 1 or 3 for their wing. The Wing adds complementary flavor and spice to the Type.

A 2️⃣w1️⃣, also known as the Altruist, serves others in a dutiful, purposeful way. These Twos love to serve from a place of selflessness in order to reform.

2️⃣w3️⃣ is the more common, and the double extra version of 2 and 3 make these folks live up to their name: the Hostess! The love to make other people feel loved and cared for. Helping others gives these 2s good feelings. ❤️

If you are an Enneagram Two, which wing do you identify with? How does it show up in your everyday life, relationships, or career?

Hey there Type One, today we’re chatting Wings!

While your Type is the core of your personality, the Wing adds flavor and complements the Type with strategies, characteristics, and motivations of the Wing’s Type.

1️⃣ can go to 9️⃣or 2️⃣ for their Wing, and because these two types are so different, how the 1️⃣ appears with either Wing is also very different!!

1️⃣w9️⃣, also known as the Idealist, tends to have a quiet, passive energy. These reformers tend to i@prove with a gentler and more peaceful quality, thanks to the 9 wing influence. These types are intellectual and philosophical and may mistype as a 5.

1w2 combines the improving of the 1 with the people-centeredness of the 2, making for a type of person that has high ideals paired with compassion. These folks show up and advocate for others.

If you are a Type One, which wing do you identify with?

Type Nines: what Wing do you identify with?

Remember, your Type is the core of your personality, and the Wing adds flavor and complements the Type with strategies, characteristics, and motivations of the Wing’s Type.

9 can have either an 8 or 1 Wing, and because these two types are so different, how the 9 appears with either Wing is also very different!!

9️⃣w8️⃣ is a strange combination. We have the easygoing, peaceful 9 emboldened by the 8. These folks are people focused, strong leaders, 9s who get their goal of peace through utilizing power. They tend to seek justice on behalf of others.

9️⃣w1️⃣ folks have the seriousness and drive of the 1 backing up the 9. More withdrawn than their 9w8 counterparts, these people are strategic, intellectual, and pursue more ideals.

So Nines, which wing do you have, and how do you see it show up in your every day life?
