Parents bring their kids to see me in my office to check for spinal health. What alarms me is the amount of spinal deviation and in more extreme cases, severe scoliosis that shows up. Many parents let the schools determine if the health and alignment of their kids' spines are "good enough." It is shocking at times, what is considered healthy. I hear stories from parents of their frustration with their kids and their constant reminders to "sit up, stand tall, don't slump..." It is quite probable that that child honestly cannot "straighten up." This creates a cycle of the child feeling failure and being in the wrong. Are there ways to reduce the scoliosis? Often there are. At the minimum, it is best to have information so you can take action. I have posted a very simple video to educate you on how to check your kids at home. Of course, you can see your chiropractor or other health practitioners, although chiropractors are trained specifically to assess spinal issues. It is best to catch these challenges earlier in life than wait until they are adults.
