If you’ve been told you’re Rh negative, you might have questions, so let’s break it down!

Your blood type has two parts: the letter (A, B, AB, or O) and the Rh factor (positive or negative). Being Rh negative just means your blood doesn’t have a specific protein on red blood cells.

During pregnancy, if a birthing parent is Rh negative and baby is Rh positive, there’s a small chance their blood can mix. When this happens, the body may recognize the baby’s blood as “different” and create antibodies. This usually doesn’t affect a first pregnancy, but it can matter for future pregnancies.

Because of this, Rh-negative parents are often offered Rhogam, a blood product made from human plasma. It’s typically given around 28 weeks, after birth if baby is Rh positive, or following bleeding, trauma, miscarriage, or certain procedures. Rhogam works preventatively kind of like an invisibility cloak by masking any Rh-positive fetal cells so the immune system doesn’t recognize them as foreign and create antibodies.

In some cases, the other parent’s blood type can be tested, or families may choose NIPT screening to identify baby’s Rh status during pregnancy. If the other parent or baby is Rh negative, Rhogam may not be needed.

In a subsequent pregnancy, if antibodies are detected, we increase monitoring and collaborate with an OB. Homebirth can still be a thoughtful option we simply adapt care to keep both you and your baby safe and supported!

Gestational diabetes (GDM) happens when the pregnant body has a harder time keeping blood sugar balanced. It’s influenced by hormones from your growing placenta, genetics, family history, other health factors like PCOS, age, or simply how your body responds. You can have no risk factors at all and still develop GDM.

This isn’t a judgment or failure it’s a natural physiologic response. When we identify it early, we can aid in supporting you gently and naturally.

Why We Screen
Understanding your blood sugar gives insight into how your body is responding to pregnancy changes. Screening helps us recognize patterns early, offer guidance before imbalance grows, and keep care individualized. While GDM can bring some risks, many of the same risks can arise even without a GDM diagnosis.

Screening Options at Evermore
We now include The Fresh Test to all clients within their care (also available for non-clients to buy). You can choose what feels best:
1. Fresh Test (1-Hour) – One blood draw, one hour after drinking the solution. Quick and simple.
2. Home Monitoring (2 Weeks) – Fasting & 1-hour post-meal finger-sticks (4x/day) for a fuller picture of everyday blood sugar.

If You Screen Positive
A GDM diagnosis does NOT automatically risk you out of homebirth. Many clients remain candidates when supported with:
• Nourishing foods
• Gentle movement
• Mindful lifestyle choices

We provide:
• Nutrition guidance
• Blood sugar pattern insight through finger pokes or continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)
• Holistic tools like essential oils & pregnancy-safe supplements

Important: If medication is required to manage blood sugar, this does affect homebirth eligibility.

Our goal: safe, informed, empowered care that honors your intuition and your body.

➡️ swipe to see my excitement I’m excited to share that I’ve added NST (non-stress test) monitoring to the care I offer. This is a way to check in on baby’s heartbeat patterns and movements after 28 weeks. This isn’t something used in every pregnancy, but rather a tool we reach for only when it’s needed or indicated, keeping your care individualized and intentional.

What I love most about having this available is that you no longer need to be sent off to a different office. You can come in, settle into a familiar space, and let the process be calm and unhurried. Whether you’re moving beyond 41 weeks, noticing a change in fetal movement, or we simply are wanting to take a deeper look an NST gives us a snapshot of how baby is doing.

Career Day
She proudly wore her Evermore tee and dressed as a midwife. Her second time showing up as the midwife she dreams of becoming. She’s been speaking this dream since she was three, after witnessing her brothers come earth-side at 5 and 8. I’ve never told her she needs to follow my path… but her curiosity is her compass, and I love watching where it leads.

My tea tag whispered,
“Your strength is shared when you are present with others.”

During my Reiki session, she saw light spilling through a doorway and wisdom pouring down into me: a quiet affirmation of what I’ve been feeling lately. This path as a midwife isn’t just taught it’s received. It flows. It finds you.

I’m reminded that being a midwife isn’t just about skill or knowing what to do. It’s about standing in the doorway with someone, holding space as their own strength rises. It’s about listening, learning, and letting the light move through me in service of the families I walk beside.

This calling continues to shape me, soften me, and remind me why I’m here.

Some connections just feel meant to be.

From the moment I met Courtney and Stacey of at Wild Roots back in March, I knew there was something special about them. Since then, our paths have continued to align in the most beautiful, intentional ways.

They’ve challenged me, inspired me, and offered that grounding presence when I’ve needed it most. We share a deep love for birth, for community, and for the dream of one day opening a birth center. A vision that feels closer every time we come together.

Courtney and Stacey, I love you both dearly. I’m so grateful for the friendship, the passion, and the purpose we share. I can’t wait to see how our journey continues to unfold as we bring more heart and community to Bend. We growing something truly beautiful together.

I don’t just show up: I ground in with you, breathe with you, and help you find your center. Birth asks for presence, not perfection.
