If you're excited about Pilates, but don't have access to equipment...

👉 Just know that pilates is meant to be practiced on the FLOOR - and you can probably do more there than you think 😉

💥 No specialist, no special equipment - just YOU (and maybe a few simple props).

Listen in to hear how Vanessa has dropped all barriers to entry on her therapy/workout routine, prioritizing floor-based movement with simple props (that she can take with here anywhere 🙂)..

Re: using grip aides - and tip to better integrate wrist stability ✨

TDLR:
Grip aides provide external wrist stability - great for pushing a lot of weight.
Use create grip set ups that create opportunity to work on wrist stability.

Can we get some 👏 and 🥳 for Morgan in the comment section?

She's been working on general upper body strength & seated posture work, but this week she pulled out a new level of confidence and stability in this DYNAMIC sitting exercises we're calling 'side prop push-offs.'

I'm so proud of Morgan - she SHOWS up every week. not just for our sessions together... but for herself...

👉She does one of her prescribed programs almost every day - at this point, she's super competent in teaching her various caregivers how to set up exercises and re-position her body. So she never has an excuse NOT to do move her body.

Morgan is a true example of what 'Own Your Journey' means... she's not waiting for anyone else to take responsibility for her health and progress. It's in her own control.

Give Morgan some love and encouragement in the comments!

Tap the 🧡 if you're with me!

For those of you who are new here... welcome! 👋

It's no secret that professional burnout 🔥 is way too common in this industry.

Whether that comes from under staffing, over scheduling, not having the right tools or not feeling supported in professional growth...

🗯️ Comment what you've felt before!

But! The SCI community cannot afford to lose passionate and knowledgeable clinicians just because the system sucks. (The system is a whole other story).

So, as corny as it sounds, lets:
🧠 Put our brains together.
🗣️ Share helpful ideas on this platform.
🖐️ Give each other high fives.
❤️ Engage on posts.
🎉 Celebrate each other's work and growth.

One of the reasons I started Zebrafish Neuro was to create a platform to develop this work, share it with others, and create a community of like-minded professions looking to shift the culture of neuro rehab from (inevitable) burnout 🔥 to leaning on a supportive network.

So here we are.

So happy you're here.

Introduce yourself in the comments and give a few fellow Neuro nerds who also comment a Follow ✨

No one likes to be stuck in a face-plant... let’s make this transition QUICK!

👉 HOW TO GET INTO PRONE: ELBOW PROP

😬Challenge: Elbows always seems to slide out.
🛠️ Fix: Use the arch of your foot to prevent the elbow from sliding out while you’re working the elbows into position.

Here’s the breakdown of the process of getting the elbows STACKED underneath the shoulders:
1️⃣ Stand over the top of the client (its only weird if you make it).
2️⃣ Use one of your legs to create a ‘bumper rail’ for one side. They will lean their shoulder into your leg while you position the other side.
3️⃣ Reach ACROSS with one hand to grab over the top of the shoulder. Lift the shoulder enough to unweight the elbow.
4️⃣ Use your free hand to place the elbow as far under the torso as you can.
5️⃣ Wedge the arch of your foot into the elbow to prevent it from sliding out while you position the other side (again, they will lean into this leg).
6️⃣ Repeat the same elbow positioning process on the other side: reach ACROSS their body to lift the shoulder. Use your other free hand to position the elbow. Wedge your foot against the elbow.

🔁 Repeat this process from side to side as many times as you need to until the elbows are DIRECTLY underneath the shoulders. Their weight needs to load directly DOWN though the humerus, otherwise elbows will continue to slide out.

✴️ Keep your feet wedged in during exercises and/or use Dycem/sticky cloth.

Once here, I like placing a Squish Ball 🟠 under the chest to help my client feel more secure and supported/un-loaded, especially if they have some scapular winging.

😮‍💨 If they need to take a break off the shoulders, they can drape over the ball (a great way to work on posterior rib expansion/breathing!). Since the ball is already lifting them a bit… they can work on getting their elbows under them by themselves! = the ultimate goal.

What do you think? Comment below 🗯️ any pro-tips for getting into prone!

Office Hours are professional meet-ups open to all course alumni  + everyone signed up for an upcoming course!

This forum invites attendees to discuss challenges in client cases and celebrate client or personal/career wins. This forum is hosted by ZN but aims to hear ideas from all the talented and passionate professionals in the ZN Professional Network.

Here's what we discussed in our Q1 Meet-Up:
👉 Group brainstorming on how to replace our hands with PowerBands in exercises like rolling, sitting up, seated functional tasks and quadruped stability.
👉 Re-visited previous discussions re: contracted elbows and successful use of recommended air splints.
👉 How to approach the tough conversation with overly "helpful" family members, which actually dis-empowers their loved one.
👉 Brainstorming coaching tips for teaching level-transfers for T3 SCI: positioning, drills, and other exercises to support the skill
👉 Quick share of SCI-relevant research that came out at CSM this past weekend.

🥳 Celebration of clinician's programming choices of floor-based movement, which improved gait

I'm always inspired by the collaborative conversations in these calls, and the chance to catch-up with other passionate professionals in this space.

Thank you Emma, Tay, Aimee, Isabel, Laura, Denise and Dori for the engagement! (All tagged in the second photo)

> You can find & work with several of these brilliant clinicians in the ZN Professional Network located on the website.
