This Mother’s Day, show up for moms everywhere. 💛

Our goal is to raise $10,000 by May 16 in support of ReachAnother’s first-ever Gala in Addis Ababa. The event, organized in partnership with the Alliance For Birth Defect, is an important step toward growing local leadership and building a more sustainable future for children and families impacted by neural tube defects.

It’s hard to believe that the Zewditu Pediatric Neurosurgery Center has been open for over a year!
In just the past year, the Center recorded:
✨ 708 surgeries
✨ 4,580 outpatient visits
✨ 1,614 CT scans

As Ethiopia’s first Pediatric Neurosurgery Center of Excellence, Zewditu is becoming exactly what it was meant to be: a place of healing and hope for children and families and a training hub for medical professionals.

This sweet painting was created by children at our recent Prevention Parent Forum—and we’re excited to share that it will be part of the silent auction at ReachAnother and Alliance for Birth Defects’ “A Night for Our Children” event on May 16 in Addis Ababa.

We recently held an ultrasound training at the University of Gondar Hospital, and it was important for 2 reasons:

1️⃣ For children living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, care involves many moving parts: surgery, aftercare, mobility, bladder and bowel health, nutrition, and ongoing follow-up. Ultrasound helps the team understand what is happening inside the body and respond earlier when something is changing.

2️⃣ It also matters because specialized training like this teaches clinicians across departments to use the same tools and language so that care becomes more coordinated and consistent. And when that training is led by Ethiopian professionals for Ethiopian professionals, we know that the knowledge stays here and keeps spreading.

This May, something meaningful is happening in Addis Ababa!💙

ReachAnother, in partnership with the Alliance for Birth Defects, is hosting its first-ever Gala in Ethiopia, an important step toward strengthening locally led care for children with hydrocephalus and spina bifida.

This night is more than just your typical fundraiser. It’s a celebration of the remarkable progress made and a reflection of growing local and shared commitment to building long-lasting impact.

March was a full month for ReachAnother, and we’re catching up on good news! 🙌

The renovated physiotherapy space and multidisciplinary clinic in Gondar were officially inaugurated, in the presence of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health, as part of World Birth Defects Week awareness.

This renewed space, dedicated to children and families who need care most, feels deeply meaningful, and we thank everyone who made this possible. Small step in infrastructure, but big step in impact!

Our recent Rotary/ReachAnother parent forum had everything we love in one place. 🙏

While parents and caregivers listened and asked thoughtful questions about how folic acid can help prevent neural tube defects, the kids were nearby flipping through storybooks, painting, and turning the new “Kids Corner” into a little burst of color and joy. 💚

It was one of those gatherings that felt both practical and deeply hopeful all at once.

Raising a child with spina bifida or hydrocephalus can be exhausting, complicated, and deeply isolating.
That's why multidisciplinary care matters so much.

When care is coordinated across surgery, nursing, physiotherapy, and follow-up, families are better supported, and children have a stronger chance to thrive.❤️

For us, this is one of the most important parts of improving SBH care in Ethiopia.
