Central Oregon Locavore is seeking volunteers for Farm Kids! Farm Kids! is an educational program that collaborates with teachers to educate school-aged children about where their food comes from through experiential, curriculum-based activities including field-trips to local farms and classroom presentations.
Farm Kids serves over 700 students K-2nd in Central Oregon. The way it works is: we have two to three program teachers who go into the classrooms and teach a mini session on agriculture using the Oregon Ag in the Classroom materials. After the students have participated in the classroom session, they are brought out to either Boundless Farmstead or Juniper Jungle Learning Farm to participate in a two hour long agricultural field trip. These field trips involve five different stations that students rotate around to: Wiggling Worms, Bees Needs, Chickens and Bugs, Farm Tools, and Taste Testing.
Our volunteer needs are this: we have somewhere around 15 different field trips and for each field trip we need 5 volunteers for each station, equaling about 300 volunteer hours to make this program successful. You can volunteer for just one field trip or ten! Any help is appreciated!
