Today we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day 💙💛

You might notice people wearing bright, colorful, or even mismatched socks today 🧦🤪 socks were chosen as a symbol to celebrate Down Syndrome as a fun way to start conversations and show support for individuals with Down syndrome.

At Little Hands Therapy, we are honored to support incredible kiddos who bring so much joy, determination, and uniqueness into the world. Down syndrome is just one part of who they are! We love witnessing their strengths, personalities, and all the ways these kiddos learn, grow, and thrive! 💪

So grab your brightest, silliest socks today and join us in celebrating! 🤩

We had so much fun at our grand opening! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hi and play in the sensory gym! 🤩 We wish we had more photos but we were too busy having fun with new and old friends 🤪

We have officially been in our new therapy space for a little over a month! 🥳 We are so grateful for our incredible team, the families who trust us with their kiddos, and the community that continues to support what we do.

Here’s to many small steps, big milestones, and lots of play ahead. 🩵

Our first music group was so much fun!!! We are so thankful for our partnership with 🎶🤩

Today Tyler taught us about rhythm and all sorts of instruments. 🥁🪇🎸

But guess what else we worked on while singing and dancing along 👀

🧠 language + communication
✋ motor planning + coordination
🩵 regulation + attention
👥 social engagement
🧩 memory + learning

Rhythm and music is so much more than something we listen to! It supports nearly all of our developmental systems all while looking like fun dance moves, catchy sing along songs, and trying out a new instrument.

Huge shout out to Cascade School of Music and Tyler for partnering with Little Hands Therapy to bring music to our families!

Our next music group will be March 20th! Ask your provider for more information if you want to join 💃🏻🕺

We love our play-based cotreatments! But what does play-based therapy actually mean? 🤔

When it looks like we are “just playing,” it means we are using the way kiddos naturally learn. Children learn through curiosity, movement, imagination, connection, and repetition inside meaningful experiences.

Instead of:
🔟 practicing 10 isolated sounds at a table
🧹 stacking blocks only to clean them up
📝 following adult-directed steps all session

We might:
🗣️ build a zoo and work on requesting, describing, and turn-taking
🏃‍♀️build obstacles to practice regulation and body awareness
🧑‍🍳 cook pretend soup to target sequencing and fine motor skills
🧩 become pirates to practice problem-solving and social communication

The goal isn’t the game. The game is the doorway to skill development! 🤩

When a child is emotionally engaged, their brain is open to learning. 🧠 That’s when motor planning improves, language expands, and regulation becomes possible.

Play-based therapy meets kiddos where they are, so they can grow into what is next 🩵

We are so happy to be in our new clinic!!!! Some noteworthy statements from kiddos:

💪 “This place is so organized!”
🥴 “Are you a millionaire or something? Two gyms?!”
😅 “I love this place! Is there a security system?”

LHT kiddos always keep us on our toes with their feedback 😂 but overall, the kiddos have had a great time exploring our new therapy space and finding a few new activities. It brings so much joy to witness it through their eyes! 🩵

📣 ALSO!!! We are planning a grand opening party - details to come! Please send us a DM if you would like an invite!

TLDR: WE MOVED!!! 👏

Tomorrow is our first day in our NEW CLINIC!!! 🤩 This job was the definition of a labor of love! Early mornings, late nights, and weekends for it all to come together for the best kiddos!

I cannot thank my family enough - my parents, Blake, Julia, Bodie, Dawn, Dave (and Jackson as moral support 🐶) went above and beyond to help me create a fun and warm space for our LHT families. They worked tirelessly and were the best problem-solvers when I gave them crazy ideas! 🤪 we can thank my dad for his expertise and similarly crazy ideas for many of the fun activities around LHT. Without him, none of this would have been built. They say it takes a village, and I can confirm, it truly does! 🩵

Not photoed is our amazing LHT THERAPY TEAM!!!! We were too busy moving hundreds of toys and furniture to capture the moment, but this move would not have happened if it weren’t for these hard working gals! I knew I had a dream team before, but boy are we lucky to have them!!! 🩵

On a personal note, when I started LHT 3.5 years ago I could have never imagined it as it is today 🥹 every day I feel the utmost gratitude knowing I have the best job in the world, with the best team of therapists, and get to witness the most amazing kids grow. Thank you to everyone who has made this dream a reality! There are too many to name! 🫶

We will see you at the new office! 😃

IYKYK 😂🌚

As pediatric therapists, we almost never have time to lay down, but when we saw this silly video online, we knew we had to join in on the fun!

All jokes aside, when kiddos (and adults!) lie flat on the floor, their nervous system gets a break. The steady pressure from the surface, the stillness, and the sense of being supported can help the body settle, reduce sensory overload, and bring everything back to baseline. 🧘🧘‍♀️ It’s a simple way to reconnect with your body, organize your thoughts, and feel calmer. 🌀

Some people work at desks…

We work on floors, swings, and in foam pits!

Don’t worry, this definitely counts as working because when your job is play-based, working looks a little different! 😂

📣 Fine Motor Friday!

🎨 Painting with Q-tips is a simple, fun way to build your child’s fine motor skills and it’s a hit with kiddos of all ages!

✨ Holding a Q-tip encourages a proper pincer grasp (the same motion used for writing and buttoning).
✨ Dabbing small dots builds hand strength, control, and precision.
✨ Mixing colors or tracing shapes adds in creativity and visual-motor coordination.

Try making dotted pictures, rainbow patterns, or even your child’s name! Little Hands get stronger one dot at a time! ✋

If your kiddo needs extra support developing communication or connection skills, give us a call or click the link in our bio to get started today! 🩵
